    enfields

Just got a hankering for a sporting pattern 303, maybe like this.

And I was in Shooters supplies in chch today where they had the Boer war pattern cavalry carbine. I almost wet myself when I saw the price as over $3000.

    Its nice, but $3k?

If it was a NZ carbine that's probably a fair price, very sort after internationally

Yeah they seem to be increasing in value lately. Unbutchered ones are becoming harder to find.

My Great Grand Father carried one of those around riding with the Bushmanland Borderers unit. He called it the pompom.

I'm really going to have to get a carbine at some point, but there are just so many lee Enfield versions to get that sometimes I wish I was hooked on collecting something else

For those interested, an interview with Radio NZ before my Great Grand Father died is on file. I have it on CD.

He was the last President of the NZ Boer War Veterans Association when it closed around 1974.

I like my Enfield and have talked about upgrading it many times, but never do.
Sold it to a mate about 30 years ago, he sold it to another friend who went overseas, so his parents gave it back to me. Shot heaps of animals, don't know if it got any people, but it will be 100 in a couple of years and is still going strong.
Doesn't look like much but shoots OK and never jams.
Just have to make sure you don't load it until you're ready to shoot as I have little faith in the safety.
