    Firearms License

    Hey guys,

So im originally from sydney, aus looking to permanently reside in chch. I want to apply for my firearms license but my problem is with providing 2 character references. All my family and friends are back in Aus so im just wondering if anyone would know if there is any other way i can go about it as at them moment i can not provide a family members details or a friends details as a reference as they just aren't in the country to be interviewed.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Speak to your Arms officer.

If you have no relatives in NZ they cannot require one as a referee. You can provide another person who would deem you to be of suitable character, such as an employer or work colleague.

I used my employer for one, no problems.

If you have a Mrs the second has to be her.

I dont see why you cannot put down someone in OZ, AO might like the trip....

    ;]

"The Police will check whether you are a fit and proper person to possess firearms, and ensure you can provide safe storage. They will ask for the names of two people (one your spouse, partner or next of kin) who will be interviewed about your suitability."

The way I read that is it doesn't say how they do the interview or where ie NZ, that is their problem (haha yeah right).

Do you hold a OZ FAL?

I was told that the referees must be in NZ. The interview is conducted face to face and they must sign the form.

You will find referees need to know the applicant for a period of at least 2 years as normal practice.
I do remember a English guy up the road who used referees from the English secret service and Queens council. He shot up a Tractor in the neighbours padock as he thought it was too noisy.................... Lost his license pretty quick smart!!

i also wonder how, whoever the person is who conducts the interview, would feel about doing the interview over skype, unless they need a signature, then im back to square one of waiting a year or so

nah no oz firearms license was a huge pain, they'd make you jump through so many hoops and its also really expensive and time consuming there
