    First Rifle Decision

Hey everyone, my name is George and I am 16 years old from Christchurch. I want to get my first rifle and I am planning on hunting rabbits and occasionally possums. I need the rifle to be as cheap as possible but work decent enough of course. Even better if anyone had old rifles they would sell me for cheap it would be awesome.

Sounds a bit like you are putting the cart before the horse. First step is to get a firearms license and then you can look for cheap rifles from the forum. What will your budget be ? For rabbits and possums I assume you are looking for a 22 as your first rifle ?

Yea maybe, I get a bit carried away with these things. My budget will be as low as possible probably about $300. Yes a 22 would be best I think.

Since it's going to be a little while until your license comes through, I suggest you keep saving you might be able to buy a fairly straight shooting 22 for that price, but you might need a scope on top so that will add a few more dollars ( unless of course you want to use open sights). I would think for about 500 you should get something with a scope on and it shouldn't shoot around corners.
