I'd have done the same.
Although I would have made sure the Moose was dead.
And I would have used all the Meat Too. :)
Cheers
Pete
Except I think it would open him up to poaching charges
Beavis is on the money I reckon, woulda copped serious trouble if he had of killed it after it stopped attacking and then taken the meat.
This is self defense, not hunting. The animal is down, I personally would not be walking up to it shoot it again in case it jumped back up and legged me in the face.
What a fuckwit!
I'd do the same too.
He didn't want to shoot it, seen as how he tried to scare it off first. Then the moose threw the first punch, self defence i reckon haha. At least the moose fought back.
We are all hypocrites if we think this is bad, we all walk into the bush, shoot things that have no idea they are in danger and have no chance of defending themselves, then walk around with our chests puffed out like we're the shit.
He should have tilted the pistol sideways as he drove past and put it out of misery though i think.
Yeah Frosty, call me a hypocrite then :ORLY:
What I see in that clip is a guy who has just about no patience, antagonized the moose into attacking, and then did not have the decency or balls to check that the animal was killed cleanly, just rode past like a pussy.
What is shown in that clip, and what I do hunting for meat has absolutely no relation to each other...
We can be all high and mighty and howly bag in retrospect, but we don't know what circumstances the guys were in. Perhaps they had somewhere to be before the sun went down or a blizzard came in. I would imagine the guy wanted to gtfo before it got back up and had another go. Also bear in mind the possibility of somebody coming along just after you've plugged it in the head. Perhaps he is just a jumpy fuckwit, we don't know all the facts.
As soon as it was down he gaped it straight away. I think he was shit scared of it and I don't blame him.
It looked pretty fucked when he left. I've seen animals kick a bit after the shot when dropping like that.
Thats crap, instead of following the trail made by other snow mobiles he could of gone around the animal instead of winding it up, plus leaving a wounded animal out there is shocking.
Up until he pulled out his glock and shot the moose he was doing the right thing, standing on his snowmobile shouting and revving in an attempt to scare it off. Some older snowmobiles didn't have reverse (not likely to be the case here) and trails will often be surrounded by thick growth or uneven ground so a speedy get away might not have been an option seeing as he passed up what might have been a trail on his left (or potentially a turn-around). I've done almost exactly what he did more than once and it has always worked. Still a terrible waste of meat though!
Its easy for heros on forums to sit there and call foul on things that they were not involved with, shoulda/ coulda /woulda yea wotever. We have no idea other than what we see.
And yes big fat Hypocrite, at the end of the day no matter how much respect u think you have for the animal..........u still killed the thing. No amount of hugs and hairy fairy shit ain't going to change that fact.
:O_O: Whos the hero now? Are you not calling foul on something YOU are not involved with?
All I can say from what I saw I didnt like. My opinion vs yours. Build a bridge :D
That was quite a young moose doing what moose do in moose time against a human doing what a human does in human time - by the clock and always in a hurry
Could they not have got off their machines and stood off to the side while the moose passed?
Or was the moose going in their direction in which case it was not far from exiting the trees?
Terrible waste of a young animal
Beautiful looking countryside. Was half expecting a bear to come out of the trees and put a cap in his arse
oh well, back to surfing the net in my aircon office eating a ham sammie and pondering about all you lucky bastard planning your roar trips
Man and even other animals have been been killing animals for millennia Frosty. The only difference that I see today is that man is now far better equipped to do so humanely.
Still pondering about hunting
What would you give to save that moose's life if you had the ability to set it free in Fiordland with it's mate?
ha nah i agree with the dude, i would have shot it aswell. I'm calling foul on the comments directed at me from another poster who mentioned my post. Wasnt even thinking of you my friend, dont be so self centered;)
For all we know..After the adrenaline subsided he went back and made sure it was dead.
Gibo, I think Frosty is getting his panties in a knot because of my comment.
Frosty, dude, are you on crack or do you need help with English comprehension and logic ?
Shall I quote you where you called anyone who thinks it is bad a hypocrite ? I think it is bad, so I must be (in your words) a big fat hypocrite :D
This is the big boys play room, we all have different views and don't all need to agree to get along. Have a cup of concrete... :P
Haha I like how this is a big boys play room, threads like this often show how much it isn't. People can't have differing opinions either way without being singled out and attacked or told they are wrong for having a different view of the same situation.
It's interesting how animals in this kind of scenarios don't move off the track into the bush, have come accross it heaps with fallow and pigs in Woodhill when riding the dirtbike. They just continue to stay on the track untill a BIG opening presents itself. You can even see the moose look into the bush and almost see it think 'fuck thats too deep'.
Big difference when it comes to moose is they are more fight then flight.
Dude could have finished it, looked like he was more after revenge after getting off light from the first attack. Not sure how keen I would have been to see how long it would take for it to have another go at me though.
Nibblet can you please pick up the toys around our cots? Oh and return all dummies to their owners. Good man.
I'll just wait for their mum's to come and wipe their noses.
It just takes too much effort to be angry all the time :O_O:
:TT TT:
I'm surprised he didn't fire a few warning shots first to try and scare it off. The moose wasn't sure of the situation and could have been persuaded to move along. Would have been a freaky situation to be in as moose can get very aggressive.
I definitely would have finished the animal off before taking off though. Chances are the guy wasn't a hunter and had no idea how to deal with a wounded animal, and just freaked out.
Also we have no idea what happened after the video stopped...chances are he went back and did the right thing once he calmed down some.
ebf.. Im questioning your intelligence level, you write of comprehension and then qoute me...ive called you a hypocrite yes, and if your having trouble comprehending that i suggest you read my 1st post. As for logic.. Why would we slam the man in the video without knowing the fuel story.
U talk of big boys play room...are you not able to hold or generate discussion or debate? Mabe the straps on your nappies are abit tight.
As for concrete..nah mate i dnt need to supplement hardness. :)

I like my nappies slightly tight, thank you very much :D
Can you please explain the logic of a "fuel story" ?
Oh shit sorry my mistake, ull just have to use intelligence and logic to figure that one out:)

If you watch carefully I believe he does fire a warning shot, then targets the animal when it keeps coming. Knowing how viscous the front legs of a deer and horse can be, I wouldn't be keen to give it a second go.
hahaha that guy is a maaaaaaaassive bitch and clearly dropped his ovaries like a little girl. could of easily avoided glocking the moose that was chilling in his own hood by not advancing . wasnt exactly moosifer. this one time, i saw a billy goat on the track when i was out hunting. and i waited one minute . then it left.
ARdave, I think I just weed a little in my tight nappy  moosifer, bwahaha
There was a clip a while ago on stuff about a guy on a dirt bike being set upon by some billy goat - that thing was on steroids :D
Talking of billy goats, seen my mrs in a foul mood now and then. When she's heading in my direction I just stand aside and she breezes right on by. Nobody gets hurt
I don't think mooses and goats can be compared in this situation, although a decent sized goat could definately ruin your day.
In fact I would love to see someone sit calmly on their quad as a goat or deer charged them head on.

charged him head on you say...? ahahaha. dude the moose was rumaging across the track being a moose and the snowmobile advanced on the moose . remember theres 2 snowmobilers, with helmets on and at least one gun. if i had my 7 mill with me on my quad and goatzilla wanted to have a punch up, id pull out a cigar and laugh all the way to the curry pot
Lol I remember reading a few years ago, somebody in America was killed by a goat on a trail.
Not trying to offend you man but..See this is wot I mean....If this dude was driving down a track on a quad(like many do here in nz) and come across a deer minding its own business munging on a tree and he ripped out his gun and shot it. Then posted the cam footage, he wouldnt be called a pussy. Every1 would be giving him praise and he'd think he's a great big ninja hunter.
But because the dude defended himself the best way he thought possible(i'm only assuming) when the moose decided to fight back, he's a pussy and an antagonist.
Wonder what cal Glock it was
not offended at all man, its the internet :) that would be a valid point ... but the guys not hunting, doesnt take the meat, didnt make sure the animal suffered unduly and could have completly avoided the incident with patience and keeping his distance. the guy is a pussy slash nob . my opinion only :)
sweet,
But the dude's being called out as a pussy when we have no idea what happened afterwards. forming an opinion on hindsight is not for me
