    Greystone guns new 3k Suppressor

Has anybody had any experience? Have had DPTs, Hardys, gunworks, MAE etc and still think the A Tec are the best, but due to the set up im after and the barrel length vs exposed barrel etc on this bush pig, the new 3K looks good. However, i have not heard much about them.

    reviews, go

I havent used them but stu presented some of his concept work a while back that looked really good. Was putting a heap of work into his r ando d, makes me really curious and want to try one but havent had the need to buy one yet. They arent the cheapest option to take a gamble on either

    I’ve got one.

It’s really good and I’m a big fan of the last suppressor model he made due to the noise suppression and quality of the work.

Is it any better than the stealth and co? I don’t know but it was super quiet on my .223

I’m about to shoot my 6.5 creedmoor with it this weekend. I’ll report back when I’ve done so.

I went through the same process recently and struggled to find enough info on the new Greystone 3K. But even without that they seemed an excellent choice and I almost bought one.

Was putting it on a lightweight 16.5" barrel .308 bush pig and tossed over lots of different options wanting to stay light and short.

In the end I spent a friggin fortune and bought an Oceania Defence 762 Alpine Hunter that has no over-barrel of consequence and adds what seemed a huge 150mm out front. But at 168 grams, it is hardly felt and the next best contender was still adding nearly 100mm out front, plus whatever was over barrel, and twice the weight... oh, and fatter too by 5-8mm.
So the Alpine Hunter is short, thin and very, very light. Seems more like a .22 rimfire silencer than a .308.

I have used it in anger in the bush.
Stunned at the noise, recoil and even flash suppression... but it should perform at that price too.
I intend to thread some other rifles with smaller calibres in the same thread, use the same suppressor across them all and justify the expense that way.

    Good luck!

Im in the same boat. I have an A Tec 150 Hertz suppressor but adds another 150mm which takes it back out to 22inches. So the idea of going shorter is attractive. Id buy another ODL if they did an over barrel for it. I have heard through the grape vine that Dan is releasing an update to his standard can to improve reliability and nose reduction on bush pigs.

Not the 3K but I have a couple Greystone rimfire suppressors -
excellent design, build quality, and performance. Would trust any of his products. Good service too, helpful & friendly.

Agreed. I've got 2 of their older 556-82 Samson that go back 80 odd mm over barrel, bloody love them. I asked Bert years ago to make the same in 6.5 but he was in the middle of development on his later range.

I never liked the past models because they didn't have isolater tubes and barrels would be destroyed with carbonic acid - saw them in Stus workshop.
Can't speak for the current model, but if it does not have an isolater I would walk away.

How much is a 'Reflex' suppressor now days ?? They are probably still the best if you look after them

Thanks @Moa Hunter, are you referring to Greystone?

Going back to ODL, I had the same dilemma as @Mathias and asked Bert why not have an overbarrel design to keep our bush pigs shorter. He has moved away from overbarrel because of the results from ongoing R&D. Overbarrel portion of suppressor is less effective at suppression than the forward portion. By focussing on forward barrel he ends up with an overall smaller and more effective suppressor. If he goes to overbarrel it will need to be longer overall length and heavier to achieve the same suppression.

I expressed my concern about the strength of forward barrel design too, it seems weaker (by my logic anyway). He mentioned that every law enforcement and defense type organisation only uses forward barrel designs and they have to meet all sorts of drop and strength tests with the suppressed firearm being dropped onto hard surface from different heights and angles. ODL supply to some of them and they fly through the tests.

I would still prefer a shorter overall rifle but he is right on both counts above and I'm rapt how it works on my short rifle.

Sorry if this is taking your thread in a different direction @mcche171 but hope it is worthwhile for your overall decision making and you get one you are happy with.

No all good. It is a very valid argument and agree that muzzle forward would be the best. I have been looking at it seeing as my current suppressor will all go forward 150mm past anyway.

Yes referring to Greystone. I haven't been over to Stus for some time but when I was last there he was Ceracoting barrels to get around the problem of carbonic acid erosion.
I did quite a bit of work on the whole suppressor subject for a subsonic gun. The volume of gas can be calculated from the powder burnt and it can all get quite complicated. As soundwaves will travel / bounce in straight lines the best designs will have a surface that breaks them up and scatters or distorts them.( Have a look at the guys using spin-on oil filters on youtube) This needs to be combined with as much gas capture and storage as possible, so the forward part captures and the rear muzzle part stores and slows the gas escape. In the end the bigger the better. I don't think that we have seen the best suppressor designs yet. A design that vents captured gas backwards from between each pair of capture baffles to the rear storage area would have to be better than these current designs that pressurize between each baffles set. There is a whole lot going on, sound waves, pressurised gas and heat. Putting a little bit of water in a suppressor really 'dulls' the first shot - the water takes heat and volume out of the gas and the steam distorts the sound waves.

Just come back from a few days shooting the Creedmoor with he 3k.

It’s bloody quiet. Way more impressive than on the .223
