As it transpired - they wear them for good reason ... and now, so do I. I use Ballistol as a lubricant and protector on most of my weaponry now for this reason. You will note that Hickok45 only uses Ballistol for everything and he has probably shot more rounds than anyone on the planet. As for cleaning - I still use traditional products but wear gloves. As an aside - if you put your hands in diesel - it stays in your body for years ... some say up to 10 years ... hmmm.

You're right - after a working life of putting my hands in electrical solvents and a few other some gun cleaning products give my hands hell. I tried wearing dishwashing glove (there's an analogy somewhere about that!) but hated them. Tried surgical gloves for a while then gave up but then complain when my finger tips crack and sting like mad.
