I couldn't afford anything to fancy and after much searching and reading on Goggle I decided on a Ruger American in 30 06. Most reviews gave the thumbs up for this rifle so I thought I would go with that one. It arrived yesterday and we got it set up with a Nikon Monarch 2.5 x 10 x42 scope. I had loaded up some 180 gr Noslar BT and Accubonds with a max load of 57grs of AR 2209. All up with a loaded mag and sling and scope it weighs 3.6kg.
Today it wasn't raining so I took it out for a shot and to get it zeroed. First up at 25yds I put two Winchester factory PP 150 gr touching and a 180 gr slightly above. I moved out to about 100 yds and fine tuned it with the 180 gr Noslar hand loads. I moved to another target and the shot printed 1.75 inch high for a 200 yds zero I then reset the turrets to zero then wound the turret out to it's max to see what moa I had left. I have 32 which will get me to about 1000 yds but the 1000 ft pounds energy runs out at about 900yds so I probably would never use it over 600- 700 yds on game.
After dialing back to zero I fired another shot and it printed very close to the other, real happy with both rifle and scope.
I tried one shot at 340 yds and it impacted a little high which would be explained by the extra speed my loads are doing( MOA chart worked out for muzzle velocity of 2700 not 2827 fps)
This must be what they call a fast rifle as 2827 fps from a 22 inch barrel with a 180gr bullet isn't to bad at all. Recoil is stiff but manageable and the trigger brakes at 3 pounds even. The only minor problem seems to be the magazine with the odd round miss feeding if I work the bolt slowly.Attachment 65219Attachment 65220Attachment 65221Attachment 65222
Looks like you're onto a winner. Those Noslers are supposed to be superb on game even at slightly slower velocities, and I've found them to be very accurate too.
