Gun shop owner vows to prosecute TV3 reporter | Stuff.co.nz

Good, Im not a fan of GC at the best of times, but all this woman has done is commit a crime against their company, theres not really much difference between what she has done or walking into the store and commiting a robbery to obtain a firearm, she broke the law to obtain a firearm pure and simple, I hope she is prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
I hope they audit GC to find out how may other bogus licence holders have purchased guns .
Be interested to see how this pans out . I can see this impacting on future purchases we make online , wether trade me or a gun store ?
The current process to obtain firearms by mail is ridiculous to the point of retardation. Very nice of her to point it out.
Its quite simple to rectify the issue and something that I have done each time i have sold a firearm through mail order and thats to verifire the form with the police at my end.
All 4 times i have been told this is not needed the the police have cheeked it at the other end, My reply being how do i know they didn't just sign that bit too?
This also points out that having to give your name and address to the purchaser so they can get a police form filled out is flawed, when I pointed out that I was unhappy giving my details to a stranger, the local AO said no problem " because they person applying would have a FAL and would therefore be cosha" yeah right!
It seems pretty straight forward to sort out first port of call would be the officer that's name and signature is on the form if that officer didn't fill the form out properly or didn't at all there's been fraud or using a document to obtain something illegally by deception I'm not a law expert but that's how it looks to me some one needs to be made an example of hope they get hit with a ton of bricks but our soft cock system will probably hit us instead
Criminal investigation opened into firearms purchase | New Zealand Police
Ignore if link has already been posted
what pisses me off is heathers comments , that she knew there would be a problem , but she says " a bit of bother" with the cops , she knows she will not get in any trouble
Listening on Paul Henry, it's being treated as a laugh, it had to be pointed out for the good of the country, her lawyer saying there probably not be a prosecution because of public opinion being on her side!! And where does Greg Oconner fit in. Was it sanctioned by him before it happened? If so he should be prosecuted as well. This really pisses me off. Its easy to obtain many things by being criminal about it, and that's what she did
Greg Oconner fed TV3 the story
Next week a guide to successful shoplifting, followed by a DIY guide to bypassing the power meter?
Yep, pretty amazing that she happened to fluke a legit firearms licence number. Also very coincidental that Greg O'Connor is pushing the same thing. Definitely a Media beat up.
What a collection of slime bags...
The journo for committing fraud, don't see her getting charges though.
O'Connor's grubby paws quite possibly behind it all.
And on the opposite side, the GC owner. Not exactly known for ethics and squeaky clean dealings. His threats of a private prosecution have more to do with having been publicly embarrassed I suspect.

i have purchased from guncity.despite being a known customer at all times i have been required to produce my FAL for all purchases of ammo/firearms.i have also bought online with other vendors. At all times i have filled in the form had it witnessed by a police officer and posted the original to the vendor,- as is required by law.they then post the goods. this is a robust and transparent system. more of a danger is an unscrupulous FAL holder who obtains guns on order for the criminal element, as was the case not so long ago.
That's just it, it shouldnt be this easy, especially as the fix is easy. ie When you go into the AO you also hand him an already postage paid, pre-addressed envelope (with the right address on it) as part of the check, which he then posts for you. Then the seller has a high confidence the transfer is legit.

But hey are we not the good guys? I've been approved and had my security checked, I'm a fit and proper person to own firearms? I paid my bill,Heather is a common criminal doing this and should be treated as such. This law has been vetted by those that know better than me? Maybe they should be scrutinised as well. Don't make it my problem, start at the other end, sort the criminal, or would be easier for us all just to change our spots and join heather? The law is pretty tight, AO having their own interpretations also shows the law is not robust enough, but it ain't that bad, tweak as necessary without all the hysteria of the gun/hunting hating public
Yeah but a Crims a crim and operates outside the law, you can't stop it but you can deal with with good law to screw the purpertrator?
That's what's lacking?
That's why I haven't started a P lab! I'm to honest, bugger, oh and I don't like screwing people's lives:x_x:

Yeah he doesn't sound happy, dont blame him though this could have been any other retailer very easily
So Sean Plunket if there is no 100% safe way to sell move firearms you would like firearms removed from private hands? Does he know both the Police and Army have lost them also. Typical urbanite twat. he's having a go at couriers now.
I hate responding to things like this as I believe opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one but we don't need to share them. Unfortunately this makes me feel unable to restrain myself and I must bare my arsehole in public.
I believe the system is flawed and I appreciate the journalists attempts to show the system as being flawed, this is an area of the law that requires attention, at the end of the day an unlicensed person was able to purchase and receive a firearm. The system should not allow this happen, whether it be a simple cross check or whatever I will leave that to someone else.
What I find galling is that not only did the journalists go through with it so completely so as to receive the firearm, where instead they could have called the retailer and said "look we are running a piece on the flawed system we have been cleared through all your checks please cancel this purchase before the firearm is despatched". They then could have taken their story to the police and the retailer, got things implemented and reviewed and then broken the story a day or so later with a united front from the police and retailers working to improve things. Instead they had to sensationalize it and whip it into a frenzy to increase ratings and justify there probably ridiculous salaries.
They broke the law by receiving that firearm and impersonating the police to purchase it, their defence is the public interest, surely it would have been more in the publics interest to effect change in the system before breaking the story. If they had done that, I would be giving them standing applause for their integrity, instead the way this has been done appears majorly self centered in an attempt for ratings.
I feel sorry for Gun City in that a lot of the flack is directed at them, this could have been any online retailer in NZ.
I am the same as sparky1000, I don't usually reply to these types of thread but this issue has incensed me somewhat. Plunket is right to have a go at the couriers but of course his focus will only be on poor firearm deliveries. What about all the other valuable stuff they miss deliver? Pay for a signature required delivery and a lot of the times what do you get - some scrawl that if challenged they say a neighbour signed on your behalf. I know this topic (rant) has been well covered over and over in the past but the issue still continues to exist and does us firearm owners no favours. So better to fix the firearm delivery issue by forbidding such rather than fix the root cause eh?
He shouldn't have gone on. Sean Plunket is out to get us.
Police/govt already have the means to further restrict gun ownership but haven't due to public opinion, which is under subversion by the media right now. Police have said they are changing the mail order system to address this, problem solved.
Even national party mouthpiece Cameron Slater is against recent anti-gun media. Next thing to watch out for is the mass shooting that Damien O'Connor knows something about. And if labour/greens get in government say hello to British style gun laws.
I am all for fixing the mail order system flaw. But lets not get carried away here.
I agree, he shouldn't have gone on, he let old mate get to him and didn't interview well.
Totally agree, But hey this whole blog is about Opinions:D
The problem is that this is not about fixing up flaws in the law it's about demonizing Gun Owners and Gun Shops.
If you have ever been involved in investigating or auditing you will know that the person conducting the sting NEVER goes through with the actual crime. They cancel the order or just don't pay for it and walk away.
Yeah definitely about demonizing gun owners and gun shops, the fact they went after GUN city and not HUNTING and FISHING was specifically targeted to not encroach on peoples pastimes just peoples GUNS.
Seriously?
This whole thread is ridiculous. SO, so much knicker twisting.
Sensationalist "journalist" doing her job. Picks an emotive subject that is sure to get people interested in the hope of increasing viewership.....shock horror!!!
Calm the fuck down ladies. Who cares!
