    A gunsmith question

Toying with a wild cat idea, a 270 based on SAUM or 6.5 PRC. My question - is it possible to rechamber a 270 bbl to work with the shorter, fatter SAUM or PRC case format ? A bit like turning a 708 into 284

Yes but you will need the barrel set back how ever many threads are required to get the PRC shoulder to just come forward the the 270 Win shoulder

6.5 PRC superimposed over 270 - looks like you will need to set it back around 14mm. Sorry not a gunsmith though...

sorry first image wrong, lined up the shoulders but doesn't account for shorter cartridge neck, needed to move it forward. Hence the 14mm...

When T3 .270 wsm's are practically given away now, why would you go .270 wild cat for an extra 150 fps? Serious question.

Cos it appeals to my wildcat side.
Why burn all that extra powder in wsm for not much gain ?
I guess you could ask the same question of “why a 6mm Creedmore, or 257, or 22 CM?”

Out of curiosity, what did you use to overlap the two images @bjp?

from the SAAMI standards here: https://saami.org/technical-informat...ami-standards/

took pdf, opened it in pdf Xchange Editor on my PC, then did a screen grab from one page (using the Snapshot tool in the app), pasted onto the other page, and adjustaed the opacity of the pasted picture to 40%

then used dimensioning tool, to add dimension. I check against a known dimension and adjust scale to fit (turns out the scale of the pictures is 3:2 in the pdf) then scaled the pasted picture to match another known dimension.

When you've done it more than a few times (I use it for work regularly), its a pretty quick exercise.

That would be a handy way to work out how much to machine out of an existing chamber for a different chamber reamers pilot to be in the rifling to work when chambering up

It doesn't cost a dog $1150 to lick his balls or rocket though
