    Hardy barrels

    Hi folks.

So my beloved 284 hasn't been shooting its normal self for a period of time. I've done all the checks for my reloads. So I took it into a smith to have a look at.

In short firecracking 8" down the barrel.

So barrel is well on it's way out. So for next year it'll be getting a new barrel. I have a few friends who run hardy stainless barrels as that would be probably what I'm after but I'd like to hear others experiences who have Hardy barrels.

    Cheers folks

    Yep, run x3 hardy barrels.
    X2 7mm and a 6mm
Very quick turnaround from ordering, all are accurate.

Be buying another shortly for another build

Hi, bought my 6.5CM Hardy rifle and very nice to look at but would not shoot consistently, would do 0.2moa then the next group 1.4moa..sent it back to Hardy and had a new 1:7.5 twist put on but exactly the same.. there are many other blanks that just shoot great you should look at..

Another vote for Hardy stainless barrel. I’ve had a couple of heavy contours and both have been epic shooters. My 6GT just keeps putting smiles on my face. Fast turnaround too and it’s a quality local product. No need to order a Bartelin

Same experience here. Credit where credit is due. This is a 30" straight 1.25" bbl, one of a batch done for the NZ Team. Chambered in .284. This is 60 shots at 300m. 51 of those hit the centre X

My new 1-8 barrel is going well.
Just checked Zero yesterday before validating and did this.
My carbon 300nm is grouping 80mm at 840m as well.

Probably of note is the 300 nm shot is a cold bore shot aiming at that corner.

I think we are lucky enough to have a good choice of makers right here in NZ without having to import.

Yes. I have a Hardy 300saum barrel and a Trueflight .223 and they are both excellent. Ive never heard a bad thing said about Vulcan barrels either.

One caution though is it is now damn expensive re-barreling (can be north of $1,300) and its sometimes cheaper to buy another lightly used complete rifle.

What is the going rate for a re-barrel these days ? Stainless not CF jobs. Last one I had done a couple of years back (pre- Covid) was about $1200 IiRC. $800ish for barrel and $3-400 for smithing

True Flite were also really good to deal with when I got my SAUM done and very happy with the barrel

    Mine shoots bloody well.

First 3 groups were sitting just above half minute with 2 different types of factory ammo.

Was feeling a bit dejected after some "dissapointing" load development with bergers until I measured the groups with the absolute worst still being an inch

Built a 6.5 Grendel with a Hardy, shot really well off the bat. Same can be said for my current Hardy on my 6.5CM, nothing to complain about.
Have also had a great run from TF with one of my 6x45's.

That sounds like a bedding or optical system type problem tbf. Especially If it persisted across 2 barrels
