    HELLS CANYON V NORWEST

I was thinking of taking the 300 wm for a walk next week.So even tho it was blowing a bitch i went out to our local range, check the 100yd zero, all good then went back to 400yds to check the 400yd drop and my shooting with this beast.I had a white ribbon tide to my target post so went the wind drops off i squeeze the trigger. The range down wind is nor west so if i do it right,i should be close.Well i squeezed off 2 shots when the wind dropped off for a few seconds for each shot. The shots felt good and bugger all recoil and rifle stayed steady after each trigger pull.Got get the breathing and me old eyes right.
Went down and had a look at the target.Well bugger me days, the Hells Canyon Long Range 300wm with its 26in barrel sure does some fine shooting.
Close enough to 1/4 moa at 400yds and a 19.29 drop.So my drop chart all good and scope spot on.

No name on scope 5x30x56,my son inlaw got it from China.$300-$400 job.Wasnt that fussed on it at the start but it holds zero, buitfull glass.Dials ok.Rifle quiet light to carry tho without suppresser. One day i forgot to put my earmuffs on when it had the muzzel break on.My ears rang for a hour after ffs.Scope was on 15x at 400yds.Nice steady picture.

Cripes. How's your hearing? Do you hunt by yourself?

    Nice guns.

now to put Dustys comment in perspective...the old fart is nearly deaf now...on a good day ........so DEFINATELY not recommended to shoot braked rifle without at least ear plugs.

yip Im younger...much rounder...much less fitter.... but my hearing sure as shit doesnt like un suppressed centrefire anymore......and none of my rifles are shorter than they left the factory...the one I had shortened has gone to a new loving home....as for centrefire with a brake.....FCUK THAT for a game of soldiers.....

It didnt take me long to get a suppresser, the muzzel brake stays up in the cupboard. At the range i still wear ear muffs and with the suppresser on .Bugger all recoil and pleasant to shoot.I just shoot off the bonnet of the truck, rifle sits on a couple of cushions.Cushions take all the recoil bounce out of the rifle, smooth as.Rifle hardly moves.

Bugger that, you stuff yr hearing mate.NZDA dont allow muzzel brakes at their range days.Somebody will ban you out of the range area smartly.

im too young to go deaf...open mind yes....unblocked ears nope....not for this K1W1 AND even if its ok for my ears, poor Meg me dog would wear blast bigtime and having deaf dog isnt a hell of a lot of fun...been there and done that....
I do appreciate longer barrels....they surely do take blast further away from my ears....still anymore than 3-4 shots and my ears ring for hours...too many years of too many big blasts has taken its toll......duck shooting is only time I go bare ears or no suppressor now...I cant pick direction of sound of ducks or muffs would stay on.

Brakes without muffs are a no go regardless of what people think. Will go deaf very quick
