Shorter action for the same performance may mean slightly lighter in some rifles? Just at a guess, and not really relevant to Tikkas cos they're too lazy to make short ones.

The short answer. The Swedes factory barrel is too short at 24" and you can't get anymore velocity past about 44gn. The .260 hits about 2 clicks higher at 800m when optimized (std). Comparing almost identical tikkas in swede and .260. <Administering self inflicted uppercut for joining in!>
its all bullshit that a short action is lighter than a long action, well they might be, but by like a few grams which is really nothing worth considering. kiwi greg? did a comparison ages ago
a 6.5x55 has more capacity than a 260 so sorry, they arent
look at the info mate and work it out for yourself if your reloading its the better option for sure just look at speeds how much powder used etcetc
don't get me wong I love the 6.5x55 and owned a fair few from m96's to tikkas but if I was going to buy a new tikka tomorrow it would be 260 ive shot a few lately and read up on them and there's not much in it but I think (in my opinion) 260 has a small advantage over 6.5
and dick of the day goes to.................
Boom. Tikka fixed.
Same.

I have just spent an hour or so cracking up at all his threads and posts again
Haha I just read all this, I was never around on this forum in Toby's day but he seems like a hard shot!
Gotta laugh at all the guys that took the first post seriously!
It's hilarious how many people have PM'd and tagged me instead of Mr. Songhurst...
The plan is to get a 270 at some stage. I'll take it for a walk and pole-axe something then have a talk with @Toby and tell him they do work. ;)
Mind you, I can imagine he'll organise something else to go wrong for me, just for spite.
I'm curious to what I am then. I'm a loud, proud 270 owner and user, but it's not a Tikka. Does that mean I'm still in the closet, but got the doors open.
At least it's not a 7mm08
Rubbish! I have not got a 243. I have two of them, and just to cheese @Toby off they are ugly Savages with the gimmicky trigger. I did catch him off guard and he said that it was nice to shoot when he tried it. Then I screwed things up by putting 3 shots through a ragged hole with his Howa 6.5x55AI.
Gonna bring one of each to Toby's shoot, 2 Tikka's, 1 X .243 and 1 X .270 just because.
Meh, I will bite... Have a Tikka and its 7mm08. Puts holes is things and reloaded rounds will travel better than 308. Have swapped the stock with an MDT/LSS, bit heavier but I like it for 5-600yrds (maybe longer at the range when I get a chance). No requirement to change the trigger or barrel unless your match shooting I guess.
Having a laugh at the newer members getting caught in Toby's web
Haha, yeah... Any chance for some banter though ;).
So how much stick does a newby with a 7mm-08 get? Just curious, not me, I know a guy...
There will be a really cool Tikka 270 (yeah I know an oxymoron) with Toby's name on it at Toby's shoot with just over 250 rounds for guys to have a play with & possibly win :)
Pics & more info to come
