I had the same issue with mine on the 123 Lapuas. Swapped over to 142SMKs and its SWEET.
AR2209/4350 works great.
Had the opertunity this past weekend to train with some good shooters and the Howa delivered big time.
0.5mm jump to the lands works on mine.
It’s funny mine hates anything 140+Tryed quite a few breeds and shapes
Never had an average group size below.8” at 100
Likes 120-130 almost everything I’ve tried shot 1/2” or better Average or atlest did
Been a very long time since ive sat down and shot groups with it
Checking zero and shooting animals has been the extent of it lately
Powder and bullet shortage and cost is a bit sore lol

We have 2 of the mini's , 1 in 7.62 x 39 and the new grendal . As yet the grendal has not fired a shot as waiting for a new stock to arrive then a chop to 16" ish to suit the stock.
But I wanted to keep the bolts for the two rifles with the actions they came with so needed a way to id each bolt at a glance but wanted something more permanent than paint so out with the round file .....

So now the grendal bolt is instantly recognizable , slightly lighter (ish) but is also more tactile with the 'flutes' added to the knob.
Worked out quite well.

First job is glue on a Rubber bolt knob , have them now on all my rifles and I really like the feel and usability compared with the small Factory knob .

It shoots Factory Fiocchi 60gn ammo easily under an inch ( 20mm-22mm three shot groups )
But then I realised that I had a better scope on a rifle that I'm not using much at the moment so bought some 30mm Talleys and mounted it up , but I haven't weighed it yet .
I'm very happy with it so far , and will start load development with it soon .

Howa .308 win. 26" howa factory mounted on GRS Bifrost and Ckyepod. It'll shoot 1/2moa at 500yds if I do my bit. Impressed with it.

Yes. 12mm alum bar and couple of screws after filing a bit of a flat.
The SA 223 is a tack driver. Awesome tool.
Also trying to work out a load for a 16.5inch 308. Since I've shortened it, it hates factory ammo.

Taken plenty of animals with the 308. Been a great rifle for me.

I think I got one of the last barreled actions in 6 creedmoor. The barrel is astonishingly slow (~2880 FPS with 41.6gr 2209) but is very accurate.

@chalkeye it will get faster as it breaks in. I’ve got them in various chamberings including 6mm Creedmoor and every one has taken a good couple of hundred shots to get fully up to speed.
For reference, my 6mm has a 22”, the load is 108gr ELD-M, 42gr 2209 for 2,965 ft./sec. It’s shooting noticeably high now so it’s gotten faster as expected and I need to do another drop test.
Same kind of accuracy as yours. Touching holes.

I have never had any trouble with Remington or Federal through mine. I hand load a few different pills 150-170gn for the bush all are accurate.
Eg Hornady interlock 150 SP, 43 g 2206H has worked real well in Weatherby, howa, ruger and winchester 308 bushpigs. 15 to 18 inch barrels running suppressors.

Many years ago I bought what was marketed as a CMC Howa Mountaineer in .223. Had a blued barrel and what I thought might be a mahogany stock. It was muzzle-heavy. kicked like a fresian in a herringbone shed but, once I got it, would put 5 into about 1.25" at about 100 long paces up a mate's paddock. The long paces were cos I have a foot absent, so they had to be long to compensate. Used that rifle to cull 'roos, donkeys, camels, and about a zillion rabbits, dogs and foxes. I plan to buy another Howa soonish. I think they're basically a copy of the Sako 461 of years ago. A fine rifle.
I did a bit of .223 load testing using 2206H / 53gn Vmax today .
Right from the beginning something just didn't feel right with my shooting position , I fiddled around with my rear bag etc and in the end just started shooting .
I thought it must just be me but every shot just felt off .
I finished shooting and was packing up when I noticed that my Harris Bi-Pod was on backwards :wtfsmilie:
No wonder I was struggling , every time I loaded into the Bi-Pod the legs moved .
Anyway here is a pic of the target , now I'm dubious about the results .
Interestingly the group at the bottom has 5 shots , 1 round of each powder charge , this is something I've started doing , to see how much difference in group size you get with a variance in charge weight 0.8gn in this case .
Butt...... I just don't know how valid this test was so I think I'm going to repeat this test with the Bi-Pod correctly mounted :)

well it proves what Ive said for years..sometimes we over complicate things for sub 300 yard shooting... my .223 in particular ALWAYS groups like that regardless of rounds its fed. I just put what I feel like using in the magazine and NORMALLY hit what its pointed at,actually it always hits what its pointed at,just sometimes the animal I would like to hit isnt where Im pointing it LOL. someone has to put some copper out on hillside to stop mineral deficiency.

Trued action , Timney trigger , extended bolt handle and fluted bolt . This used to be a 243 and lived in a bedded GRS laminate hunter . It's now on its third barrel and chambered in 6XC , throated for long bullets .
Sadly , I haven't even had time to do any load development . Hopefully, very soon .
Howa have to be the best bang for buck out there I reckon. I’ve got a few.
Main hunting rifle is an alpine in 6.5creed
Night rifle is a mini in 300blk in an mdt lss
Main prs rifle is a varmint 26” barrel jobbie in 6.5c in a chassis.
Backup rifle is a varmint 223 24” barrel in a b&c stock.
All are more accurate than I can shoot with hand loads. Excellent value for money.
Finally ran out of the "premium" factory hunting ammunition my Howa 308 loves this roar, so pulled out the reloading kit today.
Loaded up 3 rounds 1 grain under max with Hornady 165 BTSP's. 30 minute load development, start to finish!
