    Howa mini 1500 magazine problem

I bought a new mini 1500 the other day. Great little rifle. Shoots well. But on my first trip into the bush with it today the magazine dropped out twice in the first five minutes of stalking. After that I just left it in my pocket until I needed it.

The problem is 1) the release is somewhat large and unprotected, like a trigger without a guard 2) its purchase on the magazine is only a couple mm, maybe three so it only take a small nudge to release and 3) the magazine sits so loosely in the rifle theres no extra friction to hold it in place.

Before I redesign and maybe 3D print a new improved release or mag, has any of you solved this issue?

I would think an issue like that on a new rifle should be addressed by the store. I would be taking it back to them to discuss it.

I just cut mine down with some wire cutters.

The one fitted to my Magnum I disassembled and filed it down, looks nicer but both jobs worked well.

I reckon I can train my hands, but not the bush-lawyer and supplejack I meet up with.

I don't have mine now but they are easy to trim down and even if you just leave a "nub" you can still get the Mag out perfectly fine when you need to - in other words it would be pretty hard to get the mag release too short

Do they make a floor plate of 5 round option for these yet? I want one in 6.5 grendel but that mag is annoying in hand

You can buy and fit a floorplate and magazine, so it must work the other way too. Not a bad solution.

Unfortunately not for the mini action, only available with the detachable box magazine and, as far as I can research, no one is making a bottom metal replacement with a hinged floorplate yet.

Sometimes mine doesn’t click in if you don’t hear an Audible click it’s not locked
Cut your mag release down or simply learn to carry it in a way you don’t knock the release

Thats because the action has no feed rails machined into it.
