    Hunting rifle

Gidday lads buying my first rifle and have gone down a massive rabbit hole of which calibre I want to go with just wanting some different point of veiws from some seasoned hunters.
Wanting a calibre for distances that hit hard over 400-500m was looking at 6.5 prc but not sure how hard they actually hit over such a distance and what are some other options in the same sort of short action calibre range!

nope....not going to happen UNTIL you have learnt to shoot accurately and consistantly...unless you can guarantee to pop that foot ball at a given range, you have no place to be attempting to shoot an animal at that range.
400 yards is a long way away....you NEED to be using a rangefinder and probably dialing up out that far....yo ualso need to know how to read wind.
untill youve learnt to walk, dont try to run

Sounds like a .308 would hit the mark !!
Good for close in the bush.
With a bit of practise and patience will get you out to 500m

    Get a 7mm08,6.5creed or 308 with a VX5 3-15 and plenty of range time.

then go suppressed .308 and learn your trade in close and plink out long till you know what your doing....it will be easy and relatively cheap to feed, will be honest and will keep you honest. very easy to load for.... 6 k will set you up VERY well...good rifle, good glass, rangefinder and reloading gear. you can save yourself a LOT of time money and stress by buying something already set up wit hthe work done...if he hadnt sworn on all sorts of things he not selling anymore I would say just wait till dannyb gets sick of new toy and onsells it after doing the hard work of load development.... but there are plenty of bargains around to be had.

I've already purchased a vx6hd and was looking at both the 7mm08 and the 7mm rm but the only question I have with the 7mm Rm is what's the size difference in ammo compared to a 308? And that would actually be awesome Kelton me and my brother want to learn how to press our own ammo but know it's definitely an art and need to be taught by some one

A 708 pushing 154sst is what I’m running for what you are looking at
Iv stepped down from 7rm to 280rem to now 708
Avoid magnums unless you need them, they are long loud and kick hard. The bullets also cost tons more as do reloading components for magnums

Just put an @ in front of Kelton like this @Kelton if you want him to see your post mate

Personally I would stay away from 7mm08 as it is not popular internationally so potentially less components in the coming years....
