Well here's a very interesting bit of info for you Ruger no1 and no3 fans

Here is a Wilber Huack single shot rifle circa 1950s
He applied for patent 1951 and it was approved 1956
There would seem to have been quite a number of his actions made and those finished by him range from standard grades to quite spectacular

This design is reputed to be what inspired and influenced Bill Ruger to design and build the No1 and No3 actions.

Gun writers always name check Farquharson for the action and Alexander Henry for the stock.

But it looks like Hauck deserves the lion's share of the credit for Ruger bringing a decent quality modern single shot falling block rifle to the masses

Hauck's actions most often had double set triggers
And clearly his lever and trigger guard are very different
But the main reciever shape and size are very similar to the Ruger

The patent drawings have a number of differences and these are mainly due to the Hauck being small scale hand crafted and the Ruger being mass produced in what were at the time a state of the art manufacturer

The engraver was a close personal friend of Hauck's
Wilbur Hauck was considered to be one of the Top 10 gunsmiths of his era

The main fault of the Ruger no1

But I do appreciate it's fundamental design and the quality of it's build
And that he inspired Bill Ruger to make a modern classic that's inspired several generations to test themselves with a proper single shot rifle

that photo alone showing such precise glorious clean lines makes me salivate. To see this sort of quality in this age of mass produced crap ,shallow emotions and a grossly over reliance on AI to sort all humanities problems makes me realise the human brain is indeed capable of simplicity and beauty to which i raise my glass in profound salute.

An other exceptional single shot falling block was the Miller action, with an in line firing pin system into the block.
I went to visit his workshop in St Onge in South Dakota in 2000, a few years before it was sold to Dakota arms.
The lever was not very pretty but is was a hell of an action, no longer made unfortunately.

The Dakota 10 action is not bad either. More refined.

there are a few wonderful home built rifles made by our members... pretty sure there is a drop block included in that.
