Looking at consolidating 2 rifles into one, do they still make the stainless synthetic Montana's in .260? Not keen on 308 nor 7mm08 but would cave in and go .243 in a pinch and rebarrel later.

No not that I know of, A Montana in 260 eas a great combination but unfortunately their 6.5 barrels were absolute shit and only about 1 out'a 4 shot any good so watch out buying a second hand one.
Great rifles though my 7-08 shots and the 7wsm I had bott shot well, nice weight and triggers.
right o, so its either that or a Sako 75 in x08 and then rebarrel to .260 if i want.
Jog on m8. I missed a good montana 243 on here by like 1 day.. Damn
85 finlite do the 260
Yeah I had one in 260 few years ago. Bought new, wouldnt group better than 4inches at 100m off a bench rest/ with front tripod and rear bag,, plus swarovski scope. Tryed several makes and weight projectiles to no avail.
Another thing it did was when magazine full and you worked the bolt to pick up the cartridge// bolt just slid over the top of cartridge with out picking it up. It got sent back.......kimber roulette!!
Currently have an sako 85 stainless/syn in 260....super accurate.
I had a 260 montana and it was shit , if you want a 260 in a light rifle that will shoot either get a forbes for around 2600 or a tikka t3 and fit a mcmillan for around the same price , the kimber montana will go 1800 2nd hand fit a new barrel etc . . You are around 2600 anyway. Just my 2 cents.
Kimber 6.5 Creedmoor :)
I'd rebarrel a kimber if you can pick one up for the right money it's always going to be smaller and lighter than a t3 or sako
I like the action sized to the cal not just one fits all..
Sako 85 is far too rich for my blood (for what you get).
Good Idea about the kimber hunter although i hear brass life isn't flash in the creedmoor?
Or I could go Savage 11/111 light weight in 260? need to find where they are for sale in NZ
Kimbers make great carry rifles for bush hunting but I wouldn't own one as a mid/long range rifle to shoot off a bag or bipod. The stock fit for most is too small and the weight makes them harder to shoot. I had a Kimber as a short bush pig and it was fantastic but the lack of a detach mag put me off.
I'd go sako 75/85 second hand any day.
A lot of the .260 and 7-08 ones didn't shoot well in the early days. All of the ones I owned did shoot well but they were either .308 or .243. I actually prefer my current model 84m wood blued to my previous montanas due to having a bit more weight. Light guns with short LOP are hard to shoot. If you can stretch it go forbes
Timmay pm @. Daggers_187 he "may" be able to help.......
Import a NULA then if you want old forbes :)
$3000~ CAD....
What has happened to your tikka fetish? :P
I'll be keeping the rem mag, I am thinking of selling the 6.5x55 tikka and .223 CZ and buying 1 nice rifle (Montana or maaaybbe Sako) in say 6.5x47, I like efficient cartridge.
Mind you Pointer has promised me a barrel but failed to deliver thus far - 6x45 if I did that I would probably consolidate the tikka + scope and scope from the cz into a really nice scope IE VX6 or Diavari.
The rifle only needs to be capable killer to 300 yards.
So two that can currently do it into one that does it while looking cool :D As i did last night, I'll shut up now ;)
Yep pretty much, quality over quantity. But I've just shot so many deer with the 6.5 I'm not sure I want to sell it :D
Kimber Adirondack in 6.5 Creedmoor yesterday with first load development.Attachment 51581Attachment 51582Attachment 51583
This group was shot off a sniperpod at 100m in less than a minute to see how barrel heating might effect accuracy. Bloody happy with the result! Shot 5 may have been me but not concerned either way.Attachment 51584Attachment 51585Attachment 51586
Weight including 1 round otherwise its only a "club":x_x: Thanks to the local butcher!

Base rifle is standard, I've added a titanium fluted bolt handle (original weighed 1oz this weighs less than 1/2oz) in a Mountain Ascent style. Talley low rings and a vx3 2.5-8x36 with S.O.D from @7mmsaum. 2.14Kg's and bugger all recoil!
I wish I could double like! Awesome setup mate.
Bloody nice wee rifle there mate. Out of interest how is the eye relief and eye box on that scope? It's fucking shocking on the new VX3i's.
Just measured relief and I have the scope 5" away which works great for me. Just a very fine ring is all I can see, not a heavy dark ring.
I think the butchers' scales are out. The unit price is way off :)
Since Kimbers are supposed to be shit shooters I thought this one would be priceless then! Go by the weight on the scales as I cocked up the text and can't edit it!
I haven't had a shit one yet and I'm on number four :)
Because you've got low standards.
This is No 2 for me. The Pro Varmint in 22-250 is a drill :)
None of them were inaccurate, as for timmays cheap shot about low standards they all shot under 1.5 inch at 100m with factory ammo which is good considering the weight of them. I'm not a gun nerd farm hunter like Timmay so it's good enough for me :P
1. First one, a .308. Very accurate. Sold it to a member at the other pub who still has it. Sold to get one in .243
2. Sent the .243 one back under warranty due to a fit and finish issue. It too shot well, but it was a new gun and I expected better. Shop graciously sent me another.
3. Was the gun I was going to give the grandkids. Sadly stolen in a burglary. It still hurts, thanks for bringing it up :D
4. Current one, my first wooden stocked one. Puts grey box Winny 150 grainers on top of each other. I did bed it however. Don't plan to sell it
I have this one, its highly modified Montana .243, Manners ultralight stock, reamed and recut to .260 rem, ultralight VX2 scope, few other mods as well,
5lbs 2 oz with 4 down, shots very well, plenty of 1/2 to 3/4" groups with 120 Bt or 125gr partion, but is a bit light to shoot well, and kicks like a basterd, esp prone,
Its been racking up the kills the last few months, now that I am back in NZ.

Howa mountain rifle 6.5 creedmore would do the job nicely ..... and save you a heap of coin.
seems I hit a nerve :p
1.5" at 100m is low standards for a $2300+ rifle.
I've owned 3 Tikka's
308win - shot 7mm groups with 165ssts - remember those 2 shots touching at 250m on the Napier Taupo I pulled the 3rd
6.5x55 shoots 1/2 all day every day
7mmremmag 3 shots in to 1/2 on a BAD day.
No issues with any of them.
I'm not saying the Kimber needs to shoot better to be worth the money as it's a different rifle lighter etc but if it can't do MOA out of the box it isn't good enough.
All these rifles where bought for $1200-$1600
Nothing wrong with farm hunting, don't get caught up in the snobbery.
