You have to guess and or use a wind meter. If I were you and all new to it I would get out there and forget about the wind for now, get the information together and practice dialling at say 350 then 400 then 450 yards, the wind isn't going to affect you too much at those distances anyhow unless it's blowing a gale. Once you have the knack of the elevation side of things then move onto wind, you can get a cheap meter off trades that will work but be mindful that wind calls take a bit more than just reading a meter where you are shooting from, often wind strength and direction can change several times through the path of your bullet so it's often a case of best guess, read the wind where you are, have a look at some tussock or something further along and ask yourself if you think the wind is the same there as it is where you are etc, an alpine environment can be tricky as there's often only rocks and snow between you and your quarry. Good luck! It's not someth8ng you should expect to be a pro at in a couple of days it takes time and practice and experience
