So the 56-50 Spencer is 50 cal and 56 grains BP or there abouts
Rimfire and a tubular magazine in the butt.
Put it at half cock after firing
Work the lever to clear the spent case, eject and chamber a new live round.
Put the hammer at full cock and fire .
7 shots I believe but I haven't made brass for it yet

Those certainly are chunky bits of kit, there was a n Evans Rifle for sale over here but it was missing too many parts.

Yeah the Spencer Carbine is a heavy unit
The action is very deep, the lever and block are very solid
Barrel wall is very thick at the breech.

But being really chunky like that they seem to last pretty well and there's not much that can go wrong on them because the parts are all very over sized considering the low pressure of the 56-50 RF
Of course its all made from iron which is why its all so big to get the strength

I like the Spencer a lot more than I had expected to
    It's very well made
    Feels nice in the hand
Would have been a quantum leap forward for the soldiers of the day

I can quite honestly say the Colt 1911 is the only John browning design I appreciate.
Working on his various designs today gives me headaches

After a couple of experiences taking Winchester 1892's apart and putting them back together either to unjam them or get them to feed properly, I can understand your position.
