    Life after semis

I quite like the look of the Ruger American Ranch rifle in 5.56mm:

Has anyone had experience with them, or any carbine length magazine fed bolt action rifles in 5.56mm/.223rem?

Yep they are awesome, cycle well and the mags are good, put name down for one from reloaders, another mate has the 7.62-39 model and is stoked with the accuracy and handling..

I just got a 5.56 Ruger American Ranch Rifle with the flush 5 round mag easy carry.
Opened up the barrel channel for more clearance.
Changed the trigger return spring to a cut spring same length as original from a pen, 1.5 lb clean break trigger pull.
Cut an inch of the stock.
Fitted AR titanium moderator straight on factory screw cut 16 "barrel.
    Swapped over from AR Swarovski Z8i 1 - 8.
0.5 moa cheap 55 gr sp Freedom ammo.
Wallaby ready short and handy, might have to place a stone on top of it to stop it getting blown away if I lay it down out and about on a windy day.
My first group at 500 yards with 77 gr SMK my old service rifle load using mixed ex military brass.
    A great relatively cheap wee rifle.Name: 223.jpg

I’ve got one I set up for my father, cut it to 14.5” and stuck a can on it. Works good. Be aware that some don’t have the barrel put on straight. This one I had to put on a set of leupold windage rings so I could zero the scope. Rifle shoots fine just poor QC. It originally had a red dot on it which is why we didn’t notice the crooked barrel when he first got it. Apparently my gun smith said he has seen some with this barrel issue.

Have two. One a Blackout the other a .308. If I do my job everything drops dead. Bolt could do a polish and fill up the hollow stock with something.

Yeah the bolts have a wierd surfacing finish, they feel quite odd until run in. And as usual with entry level rifles the stocks are pretty crappy. Good little action though, accurate too.

I've heard gen 2 is the way to go. Feeding issues with gen 1. Just internet expertise, no personal experience.

Yep they are good. Had one for couple of years. I put in a timmny trigger and shoots sweet. Machining on the bolt a bit rough so a bit of polishing to make quiet and slicker. Flush mag easy to carry. Liked it so much I bought the predator in 6.5cm which is a bit heavier to carry.

All good if you need the mag capacity. Otherwise it’s a bit sticky outie...
