Or is this losing the bolt when hunting? I've been hunting with someone who did that, rifle over shoulder, bolt open rattling about , bolt release banged against his day pack strap and it fell out.
After back tracking back down the Urutawa hillside following our exact tracks, lucky for him I saw it sitting in the stream.



My bolt action bolts are kept in the seperate locked compartment of safe, when the rifle comes out, bolt goes in and doesn't come out until the rifle is going back in the safe.
Only exception if I'm at a public hut and then I'll put the bolt in my bum bag pocket.
