Thread: Lyman peep sight for muzzle loader

Im looking to find a peep sight to fit onto a standard Lyman sight base like this



The fiber optic sight on it is a bit coarse and also a bit of a blur for my over 50 eyes.

Alternately I would fit a simple peep back further on the barrel and remove the other base completely.
Its only for hunting so don't want a multi adjust target type.



It's a .50 cal Lyman Deerstalker.
Im looking for a bit of a challenge for spring and summer hunting.
The local hares will be in a bit of trouble when I get this sorted.
Then I will move on to bigger things.

Cant help with the sight but I like your thinking. Dont forget to try a shot charge at those hares as well. I have a 58 that gets a shot load for rabbits now and then with good success. Ive also tried for ducks but never got one, but have shot a starling.

The existing sights at ok to get started.
But ultimately I want to be able to hit and cleanly kill deer at 100m so need something a little better.
None of the Lyman options suit as it's a left handed percussion lock.
So the tang sights which are usually on the left get mixed up with the hammer or at least very close.

I need to get a few bits and pieces in hand to be able to shoot it now.

Have a look at Track of the Wolf or Dixie Gunworks. Both good to deal with and cheap freighting.

Will do that.
I looked at some AR back up sights today in chch.
Quite like the flip over peep apertures in 2 different sizes.
Ultimately something like that that is severely modified could be very versatile.
Added benefit of good windage and elevation controls with those awesome flip over peeps

Heres a peep on a 50 cal i picked up, its a lefty, i'm not but its ok to shoot.
