    Magazine help needed - misfeeding

I'm having issues with both mags for my BRNO 581 misfeeding.
The one on the left (pictured) only occasionally misfeeds, but the one on the right jams every other shot, with the round pointing upwards and Jamming the action open.
There's a Cotter pin in a hole in the base of the better one, what does that do? And the tab at the top is bent.
What's the best way to clean them out, and is it just trial and error with the tabs to get them set right?
    Cheers

Forgot to say that the springs are still strong and they both click in and seat nicely in the gun

No advice before I try to open them up and blast them with brake cleaner?

Try and video the mis-feed via the action opening, preferably slo-mo.

    Not easy with a semi-auto I know!

I suspect the pin is there to keep the follower aligned at a certain angle.

.22LR has quite a steep angle upwards usually to direct the round into the chamber and allow the extractor claw to hook on.

Does withdrawing the bolt slightly when it jams and pushing it forward again, resolve the issue, or does the next round in the magazine push it up too much?

    Thanks.
The bolt tries to close on a round pointing upwards, crushing it so my limited knowledge (my first semi) tells me they're exiting the mag pointing too far up?
When you pull the bolt back you have to push the round a bit in order for it to fall out.
They are visibly dirty (how I got them) and being as rare as they are I am hesitant to try pull them apart.
I might have a crack at squirting them out with brake cleaner and a tooth brush and trying to bend the tabs back into place.
Does this sound reasonable or should I take them to a smith to have a look?

They are 8 round magazines - you haven't been trying to sneak in a extra couple?.

I found thatcleaning them regularly (every brick) helped, as it's amazing what crud from your pockets can transfer!
Even the toothbrush and spray cleaner makes a huge difference - I only did a full magazine strip down once when i first got the rifle.

Which one on the top of mag photo is misbehaving? It looks to me like both are not set up right in terms of feed lips - one thing to point out is that the only really easy way to adjust one of these mags is with live rounds to test it out - unless you take a couple of fired cases and sacrifice a couple of pills and reseat them into the fired cases. Just need to point in the safe direction and be careful when doing this as a accidental discharge could be a bit of a problem.

Go slow as well, a little movement often has a big effect and I would suggest that you are right with the bent bits at the top of the mag idea though.

Thanks guys, no I strictly only put 8 rounds in.
I opened them up and they're absolutely filthy inside, it looks as though the previous owner had put CRC or something in there that has attracted dirt.
I am going to clean them thoroughly and reassemble, and play around with the tabs.
It's the mag on the right of all 4 photos that is misfeeding terribly.
The other one only jammed once or twice out of 50 odd rounds.
Will have a play today and test fire them tomorrow when I can go out to the farm or range

Start by gently making them look the same then, and go from there...

I think this could be the problem, but there's no way to adjust it. Seems weird one is much shorter than the other?

The rounds are definitely sitting slightly different

I haven't pulled a 581 mag down but the bolt gun ones are notorious for having the springs and followers the "wrong way round" and the first thing to try with them is reverse the spring, then the follower and work through all 4 combos.

The feed lips on the back of the mag on the RHS are not right I think, the round is sitting too low from my estimation. I dunno, the mag should feed but all it takes it a bit of a drop where the mag lands on it's feed lips on something hard to upset the applecart.

Hold the two mags together feed lips to feed lips and just see what the difference is in the gap...

I did that, matched them as close as I could and the rounds were sitting differently which makes me think it's the back piece that is lower than the other causing it maybe.
I'll take pliers with me to the farm tomorrow and have a play around with the tabs and see if I can get it feeding better.

The springs only make sense one way round as there is indents on the base plate that the springs sits in, but if it's still feeding poorly I'll try swap the spring around and see if that helps too

pull apart and put the good mag follower into bad body and try also same with springs , only 4x combinations , that should isolate the problem . I think the follower on bad mag is too high at front so swapping will tell you then just bend bad one to match if needed .

Thanks for all the tips everyone
Managed to get it feeding nicely after trying some of the suggestions. It's loading perfectly if I have 7 rounds in it instead of 8, which I'm fine with for the time being.
It's a very nice gun to shoot!
