rule #1 - always carry a spare pair of undies .... just in case ;)

I've literally shot a pig out of fright. Crawling on hands and knees through a little tunnel in the scrub, noises everywhere. One of the killer 200lb boars I had seen appeared in front of me and was shot at less than 1m in self defense.
The pig that lay dead looked remarkably like a 40lb boar for a 200lb killer.
Thanks all for the (mostly :) ) well considered posts. Looks like the advice of @bunji comes up trumps though: I'm heading to @Cooper over the weekend to look at his Remy 783 .308 bush-pig listed for sale on the forum. Even though it overlaps my other rifles, the cost makes it attractive and it covers a lot of bases. Also, a Kiwi-style bush pig rifle to get the collection started can't be that bad a thing, right? Who knows, maybe I grow to love it. Depending on what I think of the scope included with the rifle, I might take serious interest in the Leupold 2-8 @Woody has listed. I've already convinced myself about 85% I "need" the Leupy. In time I'll probably add a DPT Mk2
Now, on to finding a stupid enough "victim" to take me hunting with them. With any luck, I won't irritate them or get lost and actually bag a deer while keeping my undies clean. :D
308 is extremely versatile, with Roberts 151gr hollow points and trailboss make great subsonic loads and sub-x is available commercially if hand loading isn't your thing
Not to mention the supersonic performance of the 308 which is great out of short barrel bush pig set ups
Nkwe, I hope the rifle appeals to you and gets you out in the bush hunting ASAP.
