    Muzzleloader C02 load discharger

    Name: load discharger .jpg

Does anyone know where or if I can get one of these in NZ ??

    Its a CO2 load discharger.
Used to remove load from muzzleloader without having to fire rifle.
I'm wanting it for when I'm in the bush and want to unload and clean down if its been wet but don't want to make a lot of noise.
Planning on having the muzzleloader away a lot more often and wanting to be discrete

Have a reproduction period 3x Malcolm scope going on it soon also

    Cheers

The Gunshop in Upper Hutt does a lot of black powder accessories. Try them or Hayes and Associates.

Co2 bike pump? I suspect It would empty entire content of cartridge though

@akaroa1, this one might do. Controllable flow. Only problem I see is the flow needed for getting a tight lead bullet/ball out of the barrel MAY be more than the flow for safely inflating tyres, seems worth a try though as it's useful for bikes and cars too.

The little brass adapter thingame for small valves has potential to be turned down to a smaller nozzle, can be done with a file and electric drill if you're that way inclined. Alternatively, get hold of a new shrader valve and you have an instant adapter rubber nozzle to cut to fit the ignition hole of your boomstick.

Or just import one. You can buy the cylinders here easily.

Actually the bullets aren't that tight in there.
They are pure lead and go in relatively easily
The lead obturates ( expands ) when the powder charge goes off and it expands the lead into the rifling

Go get a co2 fire extinguisher with a hose and get some attachments from an airline store etc. I made one up and it works well, just need the right bits to suit your nipple/touch hole etc.

I am now waiting for the touch hole and nipple jokes to roll in, please remember when posting such comments that the party minister for justice may be reading what you post....

Sorry, just read the bit about taking it into the bush... you will need a porter or dumb mate to carry it for you if you use a fire extinguisher.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.

god help If you see a deer then lol
A hot cap will generally get “slightly damp “ powder to burn
Failing that you can take the nipple out and put a bit of powder directly into the
Bolster and try that only then do you need a gas discharger thingy
Most clubs keep one on hand at range days but in my 11-12 years of bp shooting I have only ever seen one used Half a dozen times
We can normally get a blockage out by other means and normally only use gas as a last resort for some reason... not sure exactly why)My mate has one for the Bush as posted above but again only as a last Resort not to unload the rifle at the end of each hunt
Its good to know the rifle will go off even if it’s been wet
If it doesn’t it’s shooter error
He got his gas thing from Hayes and associates
It’s handy he rekons hes had to use it a couple of times

Don't you use a self threading screw on the tip of a ramrod or cleaning rod? Or is that only in them old days of raccoon hats and moccasins?

It looks like Hayes and assoc might have what I am looking for.

I want to be able to remove them in camp quietly as I don't like to leave a charge in for a long period of time.
And they are bloody noisy when you are in a small hunting area with good animal numbers.

I'm just ticking off a few boxes to be able to just take along the muzzleloader when hunting with mates who have conventional rifles.
Its not like you all need to be able to hit them at 500 plus meters.
And I have a few fly ins planned with visitors in the next few months and I don't really need to be shooting anything unless its a bit of a challenge

Yep can do all though if the screw rips out of a tight fitting ball before you get it out you are really stuffed then lol
What I normally do if i dryball (ram a ball forgetting to put powder down 1st) sounds silly but happens more than you think

I take nipple out put as much powder as I can in through the bolster tapping the rifle as I go to get it all in there
Put the nipple back in and fire the rifle normally the ball wont pop out but it will shift up the barrel a bit giveing room for more power to be put in through the bolster then you get 15od gn of powder in there which is plenty
To blow the ball out just remember to ram the ball again sounds counterproductive I know
But you can’t have air gaps
Fire the rifle again and the ball will pop right out

If you have power in the rifle and it won’t go off to the same thing for a start normally the extra flash will get her to go unless it’s really wet or oily
Then its gas discharger or self taping screw on the ram rod time
