Rather jealous of Tahr's new toy, been playing with a 22-250 lately but restricted to 69gn projectiles. Throwing 80 grainers and some extra powder room to keep the velocity up would be nice.

It's a lot of fun. A step up from the .223 but not sure it's really necessary.
The whole set up cost me $2,200 from scratch including base .243 rifle so it's not a cheap path, and then you add dies, brass etc.
    But by cripes its grunty.

I grew up shooting .22/250’s, shooting Roos for skins and carcass for pet food on the western Queensland plains.
In those days it was all 55 gn pills at 3500 fps. Good to the edge of the spotlight ~320 meters. Soft recoil, accurate flat and easy to shoot.

We had to head shoot for pet food, chest shots ok for skins.
Very explosive and lots of tissue damage with body shots. Head shots often produced jelly bags of pulp.

Thar, from your photo it looks like way more tissue damage with the heavy soft pills than what you would see with 120/130 gn pills in a 6.5, .260. CM etc?

Hi Barefoot, just butting in here a bit off thread.
What twist does your 22-250 have? I may be able to help you with a heavier projectile that will work in it.
    Cheers

Twist is 1:10. I was worried about the twist rate and emailed you before using the ones of yours I already had. you said they would work which they certainly do. Are you thinking about the 74gn that Tahr has used in his 223? The 69gn are doing 3270fps and there is leeway to up the load.

The 74grn are perfect in my 1:9

    @TARGEX
I've considered trying your 74 grn in the Creed but thought it might be too devastating. At 3.4K it would be fun though.
I haven't quite got your 80's tweaked in it like I have the .223, but will. Im sure they will be good.

Not really, I’m seeing it in other ELDM posted images in the .223 thread, and in my own hunting using the 145’s at 3000+. It just is at another level in your recent image.

I said the ELDX went right through and there was a small exit.
But when skinning the off shoulder today I found this down in the elbow soft tissue just under the skin. So it must have been a small bit of jacket or some lead that passed through. There was still a little bit of lead in the shank but it washed out when I cleaned it.

All good Tahr, I'm sure you'll get them sorted in the creedmoor.
The 74gr I make will work in a 10" twist without any stabilising problems as long as the barrel is a true 10" twist.
I only make those on order but if anyone wants to try some let me know as I will be making projectiles soon.
Once the wet weather comes we cant carry on logging in the blocks we do so I have a bit more time then.
    Cheers

In my world for the 223 your 74 grain are near perfect for my 1:9 (and like you say 1:10 too). Punchy weight, good bc, soft but not explodey, accurate.

I recon the 22CM will shine if one can get some monolitjic projectiles for hunting.
