    My new leupold won't zero

Just bought a used leupold VXII tactical off TM. It won't wind down enough to zero it at 100yds, not even 200yds. It's on a remington M700 .223 with leupold rings. Is this normal? Do I have to get a special base with a higher rear?

Something's wrong. Legit Leupold? Have you got a one piece base on the rifle (thinking 20moa base on the wrong way). Pretty sure Leupold don't do a "tactical VXII".

+1, never heard of a VX-II Tactical. Are you meaning a VX-II Target??

EDIT: read the question again and it does sound like a 20MOA rail on backwards.

Perhaps tactical is the wrong word, maybe target. Leupold VX-II 6-18 X 40 Target AO Fine Duplex | Trade Me is the detail. Just standard two piece base which works fine for other scopes. Maybe I've been sold a dog.

Yup, picture would be good. Also check your serial number, is it a row of the same number?

EDIT: your post came up before mine, looks to be a legit scope.

Nice. Then looks like I've been sold a dud scope.

    They have a lifetime warranty.

Check that the 2 piece bases have the right part numbers.

I agree, try swapping the rings around, are they dual dovetails or is the rear set a windage adjustment one?

Can't. Rear has windage screws and front is a twist in.

Got me thinking though. Maybe the rings are not a set. I'll measure them tonight.

If you still have the packaging for them check the part umber against the leupold base chart. the rings are universal but the bases differ. There are a few variants for the bases and you may just have the wrong one.
