@gimp Of course, it is not maximum noise reduction...

But more than enough to keep the hearing safe.

I also use only one module in my .308 Win.
I am not after the quietest gun.

    My main points pro can:
    Better groups!
Less movement of the rifle and in return you see the animal react to the hit through the scope.
No muzzle flash during dusk, dawn or night. Also helps with thermal and night vision.
Enough noise reduction to safe hearing from tinnitus...

And with one module the rifle is not too top heavy and still wieldy...

    Cheers
    Ben

    Hey @Barry the hunter...

    I get it.
    I also love the "Kipplaufbüchse".
Beautiful guns and some of them are ture masterpieces!
But for me a gun is only a tool...
And I rather invest that kind of money in trips to New Zealand...

And when it comes to the roasted pork knuckles:
I saw plenty of pigs in New Zealand...

    Cheers

The high probability of wild boar crossing your ways demands such a rifle for most hunters here.

I am fortunate enough to hunt wild boar on dedicated driven hunts in winter and only in specific crops during the night.
Then I also use a Tikka Lite with 20", a can and .308 Win with a good cooper bullet.

    But the nice thing is:
There are 18 huntable species in my hunting area and only one (wild boar) requires a minimum of 6.5mm and 2000 Joule @100m by law because of the weight and size.
And that is why a shorty .223 is perfect for me!
More than enough to hunt with it during daylight...
For nighttime I just switch guns.

    Cheers
    Ben
What copper projectiles do you use in your 308win?
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

I find the 69 grain load gives good kills on goats and wallabies out to 500 metres. It would be great on Roe deer. Do German hunting regulations allow you to use .223 on deer?
    Hello!

When it comes to deer only roe deer is legal with the .223 Remington here.

I think it is rather stupid to have a strict cartridge-species-relation in the hunting law.
Animal weight would make much more sense.
    But hey...
Laws are made far away from the countryside.

I am using 150 grs "Classic Hunter" bullets from FOX for quite some time now.
It is a company from Slovakia that I found during COVID when nothing from the U.S. could be found on shelfs.

    I like it a lot...
Not the best BC in the world but the rest is superb!
Consistent expansion even at low velocities around 1700 fps.
The barrel needs very little cleaning compared to other lead free options.
Availability is always there (at least in Germany).
Groups are unbelievable with it. For 56 tracked rounds (always as 4 round groups) I have 0.62 MOA. In a plain hunting rifle!

    Cheers

Shot a Roa deer last year with a mates .308 near Munich, defiantly overkill and a .223 would have been more suitable. Recon it passed straight through and didn't expand much.

Yeah. They are a bit odd looking for sure...
But inside 300 meters (which translates to 99.3% of my hunting) it is superb.
If I am going on a dedicated "mountain mission" I prefer ELD-X or SST or something like that.
For everything other than that: FOX

    But I changed one thing:
I wait for the animals to give me a bit of an angle.
    No proper "broadside" anymore.
I wait till I can squeeze a round of from behind.
    Enter behind the shoulder bone.
Exit in front of the opposite shoulder bone or on the sternum.
Clean kills. Instant drops. Perfect processing of the meat after the fact.

    Cheers

Hello and Waidmannsheil to your German roe deer!

This is a problem especially at night with boar piglets...
If you use 9.3x62 or even x64 because you expect Karl the Keiler and then you drive a 220 grs non-expanding bullet through the lungs of a 25 kg piglet...
Good luck finding it in a wheatfield at night.

    That is why I said:
No point in bullet and energy regulations regarding species and disregarding animal weight and size.
A proper .224 bullet from a .223 Rem case would often be a better choice.

    Cheers
    Ben

    Waidmannsdank

Shot enough animals with a .223 to agree to your comments, just got to pick your shot and range.

@Ben_SK is keiler a male pig (what we’d call a boar in NZ) with boar being more gender neutral in Europe ( what we’d just call a pig, razorback, or captain cooker ie either boar sow or piglet) ?

The name "Keiler" is of German origin and is derived from the Middle High German word "keiler," meaning "wild boar."
