Need help with A2 frontsight removal

    Evening,

I am trying to remove the A2 front sight gas block from my Ranger AR15 upper to fit a low pro and free float handguard.

    Has anyone done this?

So far I have measured the pins to see that they are tapered and attempted to drift them out from the smaller side. I have tried heating the block and grinding off the rear of the pins to help.

I am in the process of trying to freeze the upper to shrink the pins.

I have already broken a punch...

    Getting frustrated.

Pin "should" just tap out and use a soft mallet to tap off gas block.

I have, but not out of a Ranger AR15. Maybe they put the pins in with more force than the American made ARs? Anyway it took quite a bit of force and I used a ground down nail, ground to the correct diameter.

Are you supporting the gas block? You might just have to belt fuck out of it

If you're installing a handguard that fits a standard barrel nut you should just cut down the FSB

I once took the front sight off a RRA barrel, which has straight pins, it was a hell of a mission. Belt the living fuck out of those pins. I'll take the FSB when your done please.

I have only taken one off and a 20 ton press made short work of it-and to my shame I pushed the pins the wrong way!
So I guess I'm in the bash it camp
