I went 6.5 as well .264 Winchester magnum. I never planned it, it was just what components came together, have Swift 130's doing 3150 fps and 140 amax shooting well just need to chrono them.

My thoughts are the cheapest easiest option would be a 7mmRemMag it's a std factory chambering and it will do everything you want, brass and factory ammo easily

(Personally the 7mmSAUM is my fav but being a custom job it's lot more exe to build)

Before I bought my 7mm Rem Mag , I did a truck load of research and nearly had a melt down with all the conflicting views ,information and opinions .
After some experimentation with other peoples rigs , I came to the realisation that a big 7 is my upper limit of recoil tolerance .
Up until then I had been dreaming of big bangers 30 cal and over .
I went back to all that research and a light went on in my head .
I have no ambitions to shoot dangerous game in far away places of the globe . I do have ambitions to shoot some Deer species in far away places and a big 7 will flatten any of those with ease .
    Buy a 7mm Rem Mag .
As someone has already mentioned it has everything going for it in the sense of availability , practicality , usability , affordability and shootability .
I bet you that it will do everything you will ever need .
Good luck with whatever you end up buying

If your 270 is any good, keep that and invest in some hand loading gear, some 150 grn LR accubonds and perhaps a decent scope. You will be good from 0 - 600 yds, and by the time you get bored by that you will be ready to make a rational choice without going near the Internet.

Unless you are shooting over 400m stick with the 270 if it is accurate enough. If you do intend to go farther out keep the 270 and practice a lot with it. Just because you have a rifle that is capable of killing at a longer range doesn't make you a better shot. Often quite the opposite. A good 140 or 150gn load is all you will need.

6.5/06 will perform better, fuck the muzzle brake if you want to reduce felt recoil and not carry earmuffs on every hunt put a limbsaver on it

Thanks for the responses guys.. My .270 is pretty beaten up. So yeah. probably going to look at the 7mm Rem mag as it was my first choice and seems to be getting a pretty good response.. cheers.

I hope you can afford a decent scope to go with the new rifle if you intend to shoot long range with it.

My .270 is pretty average really.. I'm not trying to rationalise a decision by the forums members opinions. Just thought i'd ask members perspectives on a group of calibers I think will suit me best. Or any that may do a similar job so i can do a little more investigation. There are people on here who actually own and shoot them or have done in the past. Knowledge is power.
