I'm a recent NF convert, bought a very modestly priced SHV 3-10x42. It is an excellent scope, the reticle is fine but very easy to use and is illuminated when the light fades. It dials spot on, better than both the Swaro Z5 3.5-18 and Leupold VX5 3-15 that preceeded it. The glass is about the same as a Sightron S111 or VX5 (maybe, the one I had was pretty good). I've still got two Sightron S111s, including a 3.5-10x44 and it's very hard to differentiate them from the SHV, just configured differently really.

You reckon $1200 of my hard-earned cash on a second hand SHV 4-14x56 is worth the money?

As long as it fits your rifle with its 56 mm objective, which is unlikely

With that sized objective it will have to be mounted quite high, uncomfortably high for a normal hunting setup

Will have to check, but pretty sure my 4-14x56 shv was mounted in medium rings on a bell and carson medalist stock. So not over the top for a hunting rig

Yep that looks like it works well at that ring height!.
    I just mounted up a nx8 2.5x20 so quite a short tube.
On a 0moa rail nightforce 1.00 rings and my mate was getting good cheek weld on the tikka and that is a short scope to mount
