Personally I think the "best average run of the mill" scope is the Leupold. I have them on most of my standard hunting rifles. I use Zeiss on my specialist distance weapons and just so I didn't become a complete snob I put a top Weaver on my Sauer and love it ... time will tell. The thing I don't like about Leupold is the wholesaler only provides special pricing through Hunting and Fishing so all mine came from Optics Planet USA and I save a $gazillion. My mates Monarch hates temperature changes and rainy days with fogging.
