    Yep, another wee annoying feature of the EM access to the rear action screw requires you to remove the scope. And of course in this case it is also obscured by the bolt.

    OP should remove the front actions screws allen cap screws on the underside.

    And as long as he has 4 hands he should be able to hold the rear of the action as hard apart as possible from the stock and then try to remove the bolt.

    Still very concerned here about the safety aspect.

    Edit: All of above is cerap. Just took mine out of the stock. The rear screw at the back as seen from the top holds the trigger group. It could still be the cause of mischief though. Not sure how it would come loose though.

    everyone: there is no round in the chamber. thank you — and no offence taken — for trying to prevent a totally–preventable firearm accident.

    also, thank you for the offers to buy — but it's the Lovely Wife's firearm and i don't think she'd appreciate me selling it.
    @300CALMAN, @madjon_, @zimmer: thank you for the advice and pics — will look at removing the trigger group tomorrow.
    @P38: good thinking! i'm not being a smartarse: sometimes the most obvious thing can be overlooked (but not in this case). cheers.
    @Friwi: thanks for the warning!
    @Slug: i've noticed that with this rifle in the past but it's okay i'm a fast ejector. ('fast ejector'! HAH!). cheers.

    If it was working fine and it suddenly isn't, then something has had to have changed or you have a foreign object caught up in the works that is preventing the bolt from retracting. First step would be to strip the action out of the stock and inspect under a good light, see what's going on and if you can, check that both extractor and ejector are visible and correctly fitted. If that doesn't work it's off to the doctors or a bit of home surgery, start by removing the scope and mounts and go from there.

    Or, you could try giving the bolt a meaty smack and see what breaks haha.

    @zimmernine months later… the problem was exactly as you, @madjon_, @WallyR, and @300CALMAN suggested. rear action screw tightened so that it's flush and the bolt moves freely.
    thank you everyone.
