    Norinco NHM-90 22LR - chasing info

I impulse purchased a new unfired NMH-90 22lr recently and wanted to see if anyone had info on these, it's branded as "ranger" although there is no brand stamped on the gun or etched apart from the model "NHM-90".

With this info and model number, it leads me to believe that it's a Norinco made AK with a 22lr bolt, barrel and front trunnion. There is zero info online apart from GC selling them.

I was hoping to possibly add a few bits and pieces such as an ALG trigger down the line and I have no idea if it will work/fit.

Any insight from you Guys/Girls on this would be awesome, apart from that it seems like a well built, solid little AK 22lr and has worked almost flawlessly (a couple of stove pipes) during its first range outing with both high and standard velocity ammunition.

Hi mate, I see GC sells the "Jard" trigger designed for AK's which they market at this model?

"ranger" is a GC brand from many different manufacturers

Thanks mate, that's why based on the model I believe it's a Norinco

Not sure if it's my lack of skill with the iron sights, but I don't think it's a match worthy rifle at any distance past 50m

@Masperjay ran one at Swamp Brutality a couple of years back. He was doing pretty well with it until it started jamming every other shot.

I have been thinking about picking one up and converting it to a modern 105 clone or something. But Zenitco parts are a little hard to get right now for some reason...

I think youd make an aftermarket AK trigger fit, may need to do some subtle mods. Ive got the romanian 22lr one, which has been shit reliabilty
Same layout as regular trigger group, but much lighter springs. It also seems to have the face ground at a different angle and set a smidge lower, maybe to get a bit more impact on the firing pin with the weaker springs. But within the range of normal movement and the same components. Attached a picture so you can compare with yours. Left to right is romanian 7.62, romanian .22lr, russian 7.62.

    Thanks mate,

I took a few pictures of mine, from what I can see your trigger spring sits like the traditional way however mine appear to sit under the trigger pin then curve up to sit on the rear of the trigger. I have polished the trigger etc and when refitting, I tried putting the spring in the traditional way and it made the trigger loose so I'm guessing that is part of the design for this particular rifle.Name: IMG_20250531_112750.jpg

That was the result of a rifle that had not been cleaned in a long time which compounded and continued getting light strikes.

honestly pretty good for what they are

Much like real AKs... 'Some fitting required'

It looks the same really. You might reduce trigger pull by only putting one leg of the spring under the pin.

I have to say I'm pretty impressed with it so far, I cleaned up the crown which was shocking using the old valve lapping paste and brass screw, that should make it a bit more consistent

@svt40 honestly, I'm pretty happy with the trigger, it's nice and crisp and I would say the weight is between 2-3lbs
