As the article mentions - Atlas are slower to deploy. Not sure i would be too keen on the pan ability either - would encourage screwing up your natural point on aim not to mention make the rifle recoil funny.Quote:

I have both Harris and a Versapod, Harris being exactly like the one that is most popular.
I much much prefer my Harris, I thought the swivelingness of the Versapod would be great and make shooting on uneven ground much better, but I find I just get annoyed at it flopping around everywhere and tighten it up so it's like the Harris.
I prefer the rigidity of the Harris, like that it doesn't angle back and forth, like the much lower weight, and that the whole bipod is quick detachable.
Have never tried an Atlas bipod, they look good, like the leg extention idea, but feel I may get annoyed with it not being rigid the same way I do with the Versapod.
I would say I would rather the 9-13 Harris though, in the field almost never use the lowest setting and always wish I had more height on it.
Used and have both, think it's a personal thing.

Greg, are you saying that PRS is flawed ?
Closest hinge have here is probably the Gillie series, haha. Keen to hear his comments about FFP for that type of shooting.

Just different shooters used different bipods.
1 thing I did notice was all the Harris pods were modified to suit, with aftermarket bits. The Atlas weren't as they had numerous factory accessories.
Personally I have 3 types. Harris, ATI and Atlas.
All work well for the type of shooting I use them for. Although I have lent my Harris to a mate long term as it doesn't fit on my AR too easily.
It's really a bit like who likes Remington/Tikka or Ford/Holden. :ORLY:
The best bipod I have ever used is the old Sako TRG-22/42 series bipod , before they narrowed the feet down , for the extended rail .
Its a neat design , that is basically a low CoG type bipod , very stable , as the rifle hangs under the bipod , not on top as with ever normal bipod design .
The best new bipod I have seen , is the elite iron revolution bipod , basically the Sako on a ring mount , I would like some one to make something similar for all the rifles using octagonal tube forearms .
This design is nothing new , the Russians used this back in WWII , on the DP series Light machinegun .

In terms of simplicity of mounting, try both and then tell me which is easier. It sure as shit wont be the Harris. Unless you have installed the Larue mod, which means you have a rail attached anyway.
