You either have love them or hate them. I have a R93 and love it, not used a R8 before, but if you are thinking about a blaser either one will suit you. An excellent system, one stock/trigger
to get used to and any caliber you like, within reason.

I've had my R93 for 12 years and love it. At various times I've had two actions, three scope mounts, the .223 match barrel, .416RM barrel, off road stock, grade 1 wood stock and .300WM barrel. Great system, great concept. I think the R8 is probably even better. If I want anything fixed or changed now though, I would send it to Abe. I like what he is doing.

would it be rude of me to ask for photos?
Perhaps you would like to explain to me how a picitinny mounted rail on a Blaser is any different to mount a scope to any other rifle.. I accept that the standard saddle mount does not have the same clearance with standard blaser rings, but even then there are options..
None of that is difficult.....
I don't have a warped stock on my R8 ... so is my stock lower quality as they apparently all are according to you.. ?
Is this a shitfight?
You Blaser owners seem so one eyed. I do like the Blaser system alot, however like and rifle it has some down sides.
When you go to a picatinny rail on a blaser the scope ends up to high for a decent cheek weld and let's face it who wants a ugly picatinny rail on a nice hunting rifle like a blaser.
If you like your stock that's great, I don't like them for a 5k rifle I think they could be alot nicer. However that's only my opinion and I don't want to start a shit fight over it clearly you think they are perfect in all respects.
There you go again, making broad sweeping statements... where did I ever say they were perfect..?
There are pros and cons as per any rifle.... if you want to put a scope on a blaser.... in a functional way you will be successful after some fiddling around as is the case with any rifle... Most scopes are no issue as is the case with most rifles...
You are correct about picitinny rails on nice hunting rifles....
The stocks are too heavy..... but remember this is a cross calibre platform designed to be capable of handling 222-500 Jeffrey - where a little weight is probably desirable...
It is also not specifically designed as a Long range rifle... it is a general purpose hunting rifle... as such you would expect the stock configuration to be consistant with that purpose. The addition of specialist LR optics requiring addtional height above the action and barrel will also result in less that satisfactory check weld with a hunting stock...
This is the same as any other general hunting rifle setup..
It can be done with the blaser... as per Norways R93 where he has had any number of different heavy optics installed... and it works well as a LR rig..
Everything is a compromise.... its all pros and cons
peoples rigs so I can see what people have found to work
Here's a thread I started that has some pix of mine with some mount options

I ended up pushing the NF a bit further forward in the rings because I scoped myself at the gong shoot...

I can vouch for HH in that we've both always wanted a Blaser after firing one a couple of years back. I think he said it badly about never being happy, its more finding an issue with the guns he's had and they were genuine issues.
I've been trying to say for a long time that really light guns may be good to carry but for offfhand shots they make it very hard as its just impossible to keep em still enough even at reasonably close ranges and after a recent costly miss he's realised that now.
So we talked about a lot of different calibres and makes and I ended up suggesting that he fork out the extra money this one time and buy a blaser like he's always wanted then there will never be a need to discuss buying guns ever again!
At the moment the greens have just introduced a proposition to the govt that we be limited to 3 guns and if this were to happen something with interchangeable barrels would be ideal to go around the issue.
We were tossing up the question about R8 or R93 together not as a competition between the two just as what are the differences that HH should be aware of and take in to consideration. We tried contacting a couple of gun shops that stocked em but they were closed when we tried so thought he'd ask here.
In that case I am happy to give my 2c
The R8 would be a smarter choice imo, if the phase out of the R93 rumour is true.
Remembering of course, they are designed as a hunting rifle not a long range shooter. They can, however do both very well depending on expectations.
It should be a consideration when scope selection comes into question.
However I have seen Premier, S&B, NF, March, US optics, swaro and Loopys mounted on 93's all having sufficient eye relief and if needed, being able to shoot out to 750+ in the first turn of a dial. R8's use the same mounting system so I don t see any dramas there.
I personally have march, loopy, bushnell and Nikon scopes, with their own after market saddle mounts to suit different roles for mine. If you purchase a blaser I may be able to help out with where to get a suitable mount to suit your scope choice.
IF you buy new I would also stick with a factory chambering's and barrels until your warranty ran out before turning to other suggested means as you will have no recourse at all, if they fail in some regard.

Do what ya want! Ya will anyway.
Dave I can tell you for a fact that mounting some scopes can be troublesome because I have been there and done that. I'm not making up stories. All other aspects of the Blaser system I do like.
Just to be clear, this is not intended to be a debate over whether Blaser are better or worse than any other make or anything like that.
HH just wants a Blaser and is only interested in which would suit better out of R8 and R93
Get the R8. The R93 parts may be discontinued in the future.
