As others have said, get a Tikka barrel for it. Keep it in .270 or if you really want a new calibre specifically designed for that model 85 and has factory ammo, 6.5x55 Swede.

Drove to Gunworks this morning.
Rifle is being rechambered by Robbie Tiffen to 30/06 and fitted with a 24 inch Shilen Select Match barrel and a muzzle brake.

@Tribrit all good, although if the bore was good and you got it cheap enough, you could chuck some coin at it and get @Double Shot to ceracoat it. Make it look mint then.
probably best robbie looks over the action to see if it got a tweak as well
take a look at the NZ Repeating Co website for the Criterion T3 prefit barrels as they will fit the Sako 85. Criterion are Kreuger button rifled barrels
