Back in 2011 I bought a Rem 788 chambered in .222 to "hold" it for a friend while he got his firearms licence. It was offered to me for $AUS400 for the rifle, Burris base and rings, Bushnell Banner 4-12x40 scope and Harris bipod.
When it arrived at my local gunshop the scope had changed to a beat up old Weatherby Premier 3-9x40 scope. The bipod also had lost its quick detach clip, and was held onto a threaded stub with a weaver-style scope ring nut.
The rifle itself was in pretty good nick. The trigger pull was heavy but crisp. blueing perfect except for the obligatory wear around the muzzle. The stock had no dings.
I changed the scope for an old Weaver K8 that used to be dads. The Burris rings were waaaay to hi but I left them as they were.
I managed to find a Timney trigger for a reasonable cost, and when fitted it helped the rifle shoot beautifully.
My friend changed his mind about his licence so I kept it and shot it like that for a while.
