Thread: Rimfire Suppressors

As you’re no doubt aware, there are a multitude of suppressors on the market for the. 22LR rifle. From the basic spring and washer type, to the more expensive mono core type.
I have several on hand, a Manders (spring and washer) which is compact and light, but not overly effective. Next up is a Goodwin Prototyping ( spring and washer again) which is compact, and slightly more effective than the Manders. Finally, I have a French made Unique moderator (spring and washer) which is twice as long as the other two, and is probably the quietest of the lot.

Has anyone here compared rimfire Suppressors in the field? Weight is not an issue but I'm looking for the most effective moderator I can find, for around the $150 price mark. So far Ive narrowed it down to DPT, ASE Utra rimfire, or possibly a Hushpower Braveheart. Any other suggestions or experiences?

Quietest suppressor I have used on a 22lr is the old steel Parker Hale suppressors. Much better than any of these new fandangle suppressors being produced today IMO

Mine is nudging 285 Grams, but you did say weight not an issue.

Hi. possum_shooter, would you be interested in selling a steel Parker Hale suppressor, condition of the baffles no concern. I realise that your post is dated 2017. cheers.

i got one from zac at north canterbury gunsmiths for my father in law, he might be worth contacting

Best I've used of the modern ones available was a MAE magnum can.

x2 or 3, got too many, used on .22LR, .22WMR, and .17 Hornet damn good little cans.

By far the most effective suppressor I have used on a .22 was one of those slip on plastic ones. Massive internal volume compared to any of the thread-on ones I have used.
The worst I have ever used was a monocore one that came on a carbon tension barrel for a 10/22.
Currently using a DPT with 3 baffles. Good, but I wish I could get one of the slip on models for my current rifle.

Gunworks suppressor

Unique supressor just a little swish as the baffles went back and forward, then a no name eccentric pvc one, that clamped to the barrel, no threading needed. Most of the volume was below the bore line. Really quiet but it cracked one day where it mounted and I could never find a replacement.

Currently using a DPT on my .17 HMR, works great. Haven't used the others sorry.

A 22WMR suppressor works really well on 22LR.

Suppressor design (ie: baffle style) is not as effective as volume. Bigger IS better! 30mm diameter and 170mm long is pretty effective. Gunworks, Gun City, etc make them about that size. As gadgetman says, .22 magnum cans work well.
