Ruger American rifle and Redfield American scope combo

Hi, does anybody own a Ruger American in .308 or any calibre with the Redfield 3-9x40 scope combo? What are your honest thoughts on this rifle and scope as a inexpensive hunting rifle? How does yours shoot for you?
I know it's not set up for target shooting but how did it perform at the range for you aswell?

I bought the bare American in 223 and fitted a vortex scope and it shoots awesome. The marksman trigger I love and would recommend it to anyone wanting a rifle in that price range.
A mate has the Redfield scope and likes it a lot and I'd have one to if the suppliers didn't mess me around.mine did this at 100m with factory Hornady ammo at the whangarei deer stalkers range a couple weeks ago

Cheers for your thoughts m8. Looks like a decent group there! I'm waiting on one in .308 as a inexpensive lightweight hunting rifle. I've heard nothing but good things about them so far @smidey

i first bought the american in hmr and loved it so much i bought the 223 all weather as well. I'm no experienced shooter by any stretch of the imagination and that was my first time at a range ever so they are easy to shoot accurately i think from the results.
I am a fan of synthetic stocks, always have been because to me these are tools so with wood stocks i'm worried about damaging them. I like how they are light and have seen that some have mentioned the stocks are flexible but i haven't felt that in either so not sure about those comments.
Don't think they are the best quality, they are made to a price but function very well. I had a norinco jw105 (or what ever the 5.56/223 version is) and it is a massive step up from that. The bolt is a bit clunky but it functions perfectly and feeds easily. I love how the magazines are flush under the stock, that is so much better than a mag hanging down i think.
At the end of the day they have been very accurate with factory ammo which is the most important thing for me.

Have you held one in the store?

I have that scope on my 8mm.... its a good match , lets in enough light in the bush its robust (its taken a few knocks in the tight shit) when I bought mine I compared it to the vx1 and preferred the redfield . the 8mm is my bush rifle so it does get a hammering and the crosshairs haven't moved , the tube hasn't bent nothings fallen off it and the glass is still good....I did invest in some leupy filter/covers for it tho same thread so screw straight on. a mate has been looking at the American and commented the action was a lot nicer and quieter than his all weather mk2

I purchased a ruger American rimfire for my daughter, it shoots good with cci subs, not as accurate as my cz but groups just under an inch @ 50. The trigger measures 2lb let off as it came so I leave it alone. Cycles well and the rotary mag is a plus. For a new gun it is quite slick and will only get better. Its a budget gun and built at a cost and it works, Havnt shot or handled the ruger centre fire model but think the howa may be just a bit better built.

The redfield scopes are awesome I used to have one that I let go with a rifle I sold and still kick myself for it, they are made by leupold and carry the same lifetime warranty like the leupold does.

I've used that scope on a 7mm08 - pretty awesome for the price, eh! I found the reticle was too thick and busy for my liking especially to distance but clarity and weight wise, wicked for the money.

I have an "American All Weather Compact" in 223, just fitted a cheap scope to it and a Suppressor, love its size and weight.
Im yet to get to a range and check grouping over a measured distance. But am happy with the way it shoots with the cheap ammo Im using at the moment.
At a free stand approx 120m I was hitting an old concrete trough in a straight line, heights were up/down but adjusted scope and grouped 3 enough to punch hole through the trough.

Cheers for the comments. I've put this rifle and scope package on hold with my local firearms dealer. I've chosen this rifle after its reputation and research I've done plus others thoughts on it. Love it's features for the price. Shoulders nicely for me and feels great. It's only gonna be used to knock over the odd deer with every now and again so I've come to the conclusion that it's a suitable inexpensive rifle to own with all the features of a expensive rifle plus the most important thing is it shoots very well. I'm more of a shotgun man so I'll do more wild bird hunting and clay shooting than I will getting out to go knock down a deer, hence why I chose a inexpensive quality all American rifle with a reasonable scope to do its job for me when I do manage to get out and use it.

Anybody here got theres suppressed? Wat make of can have you got on it? How does it shoot? I'm thinking of getting it threaded and suppressed at some stage if it's worth it but want to get a descent can?

I have used a suppressor from Rev Roger in Auckland, via Trademe, it has taken the boom and recoil out of the 223, just loud crack but certainly no need for ear protection now.
Cost me $300 for the suppressor and he can thread for $50, you have to get the rifle to him at your cost. I got mine done locally for $80.

DPT, gunworks or MAE would be your best bet for a suppressor unsure who else makes them.
