Sako A7 Stainless Synthetic Rifle with Burris Scope - Centrefire Rifles - Firearms - Hunting

If I go on to get the Sako than am willing to let go my current 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser. It comes with a BSA 4-12 x 40 scope but not the Bipod.
    Price looking for $700

If you like it then you can't really go wrong

Why do you have your bi-pod like that on the 6.5?

Take off the stock of the A7 and have a look,
The early ones had no reinforcing around the front swivel area.

There have been stock failures using a bipod because of that.

Stay away from it if its the earlier model and ask for the newer stock design.

7mm-08 or .270, the deer won't know the difference.
Both have lots of factory ammo types and makes available.
.270 will have like 0.5 lbs more felt recoil.

Its not a Tikka T3 in 7mm08, so its all good.

Meaning you are pressing the rifle forward into the bipod.

With your bipod, they are designed to have the legs facing forwards. This is because when the rifle recoils the legs will flex forwards while the rifle recoils backwards. By having the bipod backwards the legs cannot flex so you risk damaging them.

A friend has an A7 in 308. It is a very accurate rifle, I have seen him shoot deer at 700 yds with it.

    Initiaz, have a read here
    http://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co.n...-sako-a7-1973/

Unless the sako specifically feels better when you handle it, there are some other combo deals that maybe better value for money.

The savage international trophy hunter + scope combo is $1000
Dead eye dicks is running a Tikka + scope special for $1500

Use the extra money and buy a GPS and PLB

They are out in Levin, Kapiti side.

Go and hold, shoulder, play with as many rifles as you can before deciding.

Once you decide which one you like, shop around and check online as well. Fun times

I don't see much point in the extra money for the Tikka.. Put the money you save into a Boyds stock or new scope or better rings etc

one bonus of the a7 over the Tikka is the ability to top load the mag.
I still wouldn't call it a Sako tho even if it is stamped on it.

If you can afford a 85 or a secondhand 75 in good condition I would recommend that over the A7.

Cost fit and feel are wanked on about a lot on here and I agree that if the difference is a few hundred bucks go with the one that shoulders best. BUT! it is not often or shouldn't be that you are taking a shot unsupported shotgun style.
even in the bush you should be able to lean on a tree unless your a "spook and shoot" hunter.

you have a bipod so I assume you intend to shoot medium ranges at least.
bipod means prone shooting generally and the one that shoulders best probably won't be the one that has the best cheek weld when shooting prone.

Its the little features that are usually the difference in price.

Tikkas are really good value and almost always shoot well but things like plastic 3 shot mags hollow sounding stocks, no decent recoil pad, in ability to top load mag, full long action for short action calibers etc etc shows why they cost less than a "real" Sako or other pricey brand.

No I don't think a 85 is worth twice the price of a t3 but yet i bought one.

I guess what I am trying to say is to look at the whole rifles features not just how it fits and what adds say.
handle as many as you can, owners will tell about the strong points of their chosen rifle and experienced honest ones will tell you of any downfalls as well.
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.

308Win One chambering to rule them all.
