To Sako or not to Sako

    Hey guys,

I have once again sold my rifle to try and satisfy that ever persistent itch of finding the perfect rifle for me. I have had most of the "standard" brands out there but have always wanted to try my hand with something like a Sako.

I know there are a lot of die hard Sako lads in this forum so I thought it best to get some information from you guys.

People have said to me why spend that much money when you get a T3x with a scope for the same amount? and my quick answer is the Tikkas are reliable, accurate, light and... well... Boring.

So my question is... why do you love your Sako? Why shouldn't I just buy a T3 like everyone else? What is your favourite model and why?

I have had a play around with a 90 Finnlight but would love to hear about the other models.

    Cheers.

Tikka are top seller in Nz for a reason they are light and accurate but to me they are soulless, in sako I prefer the 85 over 75 and really like the carbonlights

If you want a Sako buy one great rifles, but they're just a mass produced rifle like the rest of them, hardly exclusive these days, pretty common.

Consistent accuracy is boring. Both Sako and the T3 based rifles can deliver this.

The build quality in the Sako, options and engineering is just a bit better.

A custom match barrel and after market trigger in a good action will do better than either though. However you need some life experience with a few different factory rifles before going down this track.

And have always been so . . . fundamentally the Marque is based on fairly clever marketing that triggers the snob value in some people . . . But at the end of the day they are still like trying to compare a playboy centrefold with a Reubens original, the subject matter is the same, but that's about it.

If you handle a few truly fine rifles from any era you'll soon differentiate between "factory" and those that has been "crafted".

Rueben’s was a painter and his female models were somewhat on the curvy side.

Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.

Almost correct, it’s actually Rubens but I didn’t want to confuse the poor uneducated lad. And to be fair, not all his models were on the voluptuous side

I have had plenty of Tikka and still have 1 and 2 Sako 85 carbon light.
It like driving a Toyota Corolla vs a Land cruiser.
A Sako is just way nicer.

To be fair most people can not shoot better than a sako or tikka so alot of it is wank factor and been individual not like a sheep.
If you havnt got a high end optic i would rather upgrade that than thd rifle.
I am more than happy been a sheep and optics are my discerning point of diference on my sheep rifles.

There are some little things - for example 5 shot mag capacity in the Sako as standard, the stock on the 75 I have is just that little bit more ergonomic than the T3.

I think partly its a cultural thing in NZ, since at least 'Pack and Rifle' by Phillip Duxbury-Holden. The Vixen and Forester models have that history with them and its stayed associated with the Sako name.

I think the Finnish culture probably appeals to Kiwis too, in some sort of deep down subconscious way.
