I've got a 2-12 helos, and for the money it is fantastic value, and the reticle is superb for shooting animals. It is a little chunky though, and may or may not fit the form factor he has in mind. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Norsk said he has a bit of money though, so I'd recommend a 3-24 March with a FML reticle. I know he said 16x was enough, so just don't wind the x's past there. It is light, absolutely reliable, the reticle rocks and the glass is really good.
