I wouldn't call it tinfoil hat....I know of a lot of them (myself included) that disagree with the register. I will not break the rules and refuse, but it is within my rights to avoid registering until I have to. When I have to I will. Yes, it means I will have to not buy or sell firearms in the meantime, but I have other interests as well so I have chosen to focus more on those for the meantime. As far as impacting shops etc, there are other things in gunshops I can buy- Instead of buying a cheap 2nd hand rifle, I got a couple of my current ones suppressed (finally...) And my other gear has seen additions and improvements. (Knives, and processing gear, range finder and Binos- new spotter..)
I agree that I doubt Act will be able to get ridof it any time soon. Getting rid of it would require a public understanding of the absolute waste of time and money it really is...but most simply dont care enough to listen until it affects them directly...If a MP stood up and said its going to cost $100m to run then no one will care, if they stood up and said "we are going to tax EVERY person $1 per week as an additional tax to pay for it there would be an uproar from the 2.5m people who actually earn their money....But that $1 per week is coming from the same budget that pays Drs , Nurses and teachers...so they protest that they are not getting paid enough but dont say a word about what the previous Govt pissed the money away on......(rant oover...)
There is some truth to both of your resons for lower prices though- I agree there is less surplus cash for spending and add the tighter budget and people will look more closely at what they should expect to pay for 2nd hand firearms....I will say that most of the second hand shooters I have bought were not because they were accurate or not, but because they were something I wanted to own and shoot - beauty, or different or just desirable in my eyes) If they were accurate, fine, if not- no so worried. I have a couple of accurate ones I have accumulated so if I want accuracy then I know what I need and which rifle is good enough for that task. When I have sold them, I have explained why I am selling them (usually show them what I had already bought to replace it....)
Intelligence has its limits, but it appears that Stupidity knows no bounds......
but in reality...your still relying on trust that seller isnt telling porkies...I can make all my rifles shoot a ten shot group under an inch...100% guarantee I can do it....at five yards with rifle held in vice.... the photo of said group would be no more reliable than sellers word that it will do X size at X range....either your a man of your word...or your not worth a pinch of pony pooh. if after purchase said rifle wont live up to said claims..your still relying on the integrity of seller to either, proove it will do it,take it back,or refund some $$$$......
75/15/10 black powder matters
There is always an element of trust involved. On here that can be measured I guess through post history and any previous personal dealings. And under the current market the seller pitching the price into a reasonable price bracket is a good indicator. 25 IMP's ball park pricing looks about right to me.
There are many rock solid members on here though who I would absolutely buy a rifle off. If they say it shoots, it will shoot.
Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.
I have no faith whatsoever in the security of the register. I will sign up when I have to, and not before.
Made sure my gear was in order and would see me through a few years. The gunshops did very well out of me then, and I continue to buy clothing, knives, packs, cleaning stuff etc.
