I don’t think anyone thinks the registry is going to protect them. We just have poor willpower i.e. see a bargain second hand rifle and think mmmm shiny!!

When you listen to an interview with the likes of Gun Control, and they start quoting how the registry is crucial to a safer environment, do you not wonder if they should be wearing a colinder?
Not sure how you came to the assumption I don't have a sense of humour.

You and I do not disagree about the registration. I think it's full of holes and unnecessary. I have not sat on my hands about this.
I am a centralist politically but have become more liberal as I have got older. I still vote National, have voted Act once and voted for Labour once (when Ardern first got in).

It is our approach (likely on many things) that is different.
That is neither good nor bad.
Careful Tahr, I've had the sack twice from here for saying way less than your second paragraph.

Can you tell me what I'm delusional about? I thought I was complying with rules which I'm obliged to follow if I wish to continue shooting and hunting.

So are those that have not registered their firearms because they have not had an activating event yet.

Apart from that it is both sad and funny to see people believing they will get to retain their freedoms and rights if they just comply hard enough. Reminds me of much "kinder" times...

Back to the second hand rifle market: Is there a bonus payment for registering your firearms? Because I am failing to see how otherwise people would be able to buy more items that they do not need, just because they registered early...

Are all the economic woes going away once every legal firearm is in a database? Are prices for necessities coming down? How so?

What happened to accepting the things you cannot change? With a modicum of wisdom you gain peace which I place a high value on.

does pretending to be at peace give you an extra income? otherwise it fails to be relevant to the issue of economic woes and falling prices of non-essential items..

I wasn't talking about economics. I was talking about registering firearms.
I'm not pretending to be at peace, I'm actively choosing it. Try it, or just stay agrieved

Wow, this got wildly off track. Who cares what decisions other people make.... I'm happy with my own decisions.

First tell me if you think the registry is going to make you safer.
I did not say people who have registered (I have) are dilusional.
I implied that people who think the registry will make them safer are dilusional.
No one has produced sound evidence that registering firearms has had a positive impact on crime stats.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up.
The registry is just something I need to comply with and has no function of safety apart from helping prevent licensed holders buying and selling to non licensed holders.
Gun crime is almost all committed by unlicensed users.

If I had some spare disposable income available, second hand rifles are way down on the bottom "want" list, registry or not. What is more desirable presently is updating and/or adding more thermals that would go on top of all my existing safe fillers.
