I agree with the delay to register for slightly different reasons
I ended up registering because there was a rifle that I really wanted to have more than I gave a shit about registering which shows how unprincipled and shallow I am
In my ideal world almost no-one would register until the last possible moment not just because I/and others don't trust these idiots with our information but mainly as a legal protest to show these arseheads how much many of us despise their poorly run register
Naturally it doesn't work that way but I actually applaud those who have chosen to <ahem> stick to their guns
The whole thing is a total waste of time and money
The five firearms ive brought here in Victoria are all second hand, a couple of the 465 hornet are still tight at 70 yrs of age, my mod 70 in 300wsm is a pleasure to look at and to shoot, the trigger is 1lb and adds to my pleasure of using this desireable firearm. My Sako Vixen is another oldie n goody. I sight my rifles in and if they shoot where i want to be from a cold bore and the second shot is touching it then that is an exceedingly accurate rifle. Ten shot groups are just for people with too much money. My 2c.
My reluctance to register has had a twofold effect ….
I have saved quite a bit of money on new and to be honest unnecessary purchases…..and I have realised that I should actually use , enjoy and utilise what I already have .
My wife and I have instigated a simplification of our lives over the last 18 months and the Registry has been a great contributor to that scheme.
I will register when I absolutely have to , and my delay isn’t necessarily been due to my annoyance and political bent in regards to the stupidity that is being forced upon us .
As Tahr has mentioned it is probably inevitable …. But the important word in that statement is “ probably “ and stupidly some of us “ live in hope “ and don’t wave the white flag at the first sight of invaders on the horizon.
Over the years of being a member here it becomes easier to read between the lines of other members posts and get an idea of their political leaning.
I worked out Tahr’ leaning s many moons ago and it is diametrically opposed to my own …but that doesn’t stop me from appreciating his contributions and obvious knowledge of hunting and animals.
Is the registry having an effect on firearm pricing… absolutely.
Is the state of the economy having an effect…. Absolutely
If you are older than 40 years old then you will have seen all of these type of things play out before in many other aspects of life and industries.
In the mean time I just wish I could find the time and opportunity’s to use the things that I legally at this point already have ….more .

FALL IN LOVE WITH THE NUMBERS , NOT THE IDEA
If good quality secondhand hunting rifles are a lot cheaper today because of all the anti-registry colander wearers then I think they deserve a wholehearted vote of thanks from the rest of us. THANKS.
Just...say...the...word
You're welcome. I just don't need/want another toy yet.
Or maybe I just haven't found one cool enough yet
If people dont have principles by which they live their lives then they are simply human sheep - herded and controlled by outside influences.
I held off registering for a long time too , untill I had to. I dont wear a colander though.
too old to die young
Buyer market for sure and you should look at the second hand boat market at the moment it is nuts, really good time to buy a boat if you are in this position. It all comes down to if you can afford to wait and hold on things or if you need the $$$$ then you will have to drop price…
The trendy stuff still sell at full retail though.
There are many ways of lobbying for change and negotiating. There are many approaches to how we manage relationships. Assumptions should not be drawn about a political ideology based on a persons approach to achieving change or implementation. I could be extremely right wing ideologically but differ greatly with others on how to implement and achieve things.
You and I do not disagree about the registration. I think it's full of holes and unnecessary. I have not sat on my hands about this.
I am a centralist politically but have become more liberal as I have got older. I still vote National, have voted Act once and voted for Labour once (when Ardern first got in).
It is our approach (likely on many things) that is different.
That is neither good nor bad.
Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.
