Getting back to the original topic I will guess that the reason why it is such a buyers market at the moment is 80% recession and 20% registry and I feel that it is possibly more towards the 90/10 proportion

    Total guess

I wonder? Is it really a buyers market. It does look like that here but people are moving stuff on Trademe ok. @Flyblown attests to that. Maybe the tougher economics are making people a bit more discerning but there are some ok prices being got on Trademe. Maybe people come here looking for a bargain (or to sell "hot) - it's born out if you look at (some) sellers and buyers post history. Especially people who have joined the last couple of years.
The hard economic times are talked up a bit I reckon - it's hitting low income earners Im sure, but there are many people who still have discretionary dosh. Just look at the Sako kids

The recession is real all right

People are paying down debt and cutting discretionery spending is what I see

Some people have got money and I'm happy to see some farmers get some better incomes cos they've been doing it tough for ages but I have finally understood why business confidence is a major indicator - one guy watches another guy keep his money in his pocket and decides to do the same then it's amplified right through society

We just did our monthly shop. Family of 5. Cheese, butter and milk powder for the month cost $150. There's no way I'm in the market for anything new or secondhand for the foreseeable future.

    Haha.
Probably the first time in my life I wasn't.
I'm inclined to agree with what you say about the financial crisis. Some sectors are doing OK, some not so. And some people never do OK regardless of what the economy is doing.
But I don't think anyone can deny there's more light down the tunnel than there was two years ago.
I have a few bits and pieces for sales at various places.
They are for sale, but don't have to sell.
It annoys me when guys advertise stuff for sale because they are struggling and need the money, then some dickhead jumps in and tries to screw them some more with a low ball offer.

The guy buying might be doing it tough too... Hear me out..
I fell on hard times this year and lost my job due to a major knee injury and might be looking at a third operation. I have sold things and replaced them with lower cost options. So out of necessity I sold some things at the best price I could get, and then have since tried to snatch up cheaper deals on lower end items.
I haven't sent low-ball offers or anything, but I can see it happening when people are doing it tough.
My family comes before my hobbies and I'm not able to go and get meat for the table so I will do what I have to do.
My situation and the economy will change in time, and so will the market.

The ones I really don't appreciate are the ones low balling folks who are hard up, then selling for a profit. Or taking advantage of people's good nature to turn a profit.

The last thing I pay attention to is the claimed reasons for selling. Either the item is worth asking price to me in the current market or not. If not, my options are to flag it or make an offer. I’ve had offers accepted, I've had offers rejected or ignored. It's up to the vendor which way that goes..Nothing to do with them getting screwed. To impute I'm attempting to screw someone lacks any understanding of the laws of the marketplace - supply and demand, willing buyer, willing seller. If I'm doing charity I'm not doing it by buying on the basis of someone's "reason" for selling...no matter how they paint it. I'm no more influenced by a sellers "need the money" story than I am by a phito of a sub-moa group where I have no idea whether it was truthfully shot at 100m or actually at 5m from a vise.
I know a lot but it seems less every day...

if people are saying needs must id say its not too far off. FB market place is a bastard for low ballers. had some on here too. thats where integrity comes in.

willing seller , willing buyer Thats where its at.

the economic thing is real for some folks, call it bad management, fiscal management, whatever is a thing in some households.

some households hunting/firearms etc = discretionary income, other house households wolf from the door situation ..??? what say you forum hive mind
