For me the delta titanium hd 4-24 almost gets it, the illuminated reticle with center dot is good and the low light performance isn't bad for its price range, to make it tops for me though would be a 2-18 power range and a locking elevation turret, keep the capped widage, this would be the all rounder for the average kiwi. Bush low mag to distance dial me in. I know all the luepold lovers out there will say we have it but not sub 2k,

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing, and right-doing, there is a field. I will meet you there.

Tract Toric 2.5-15. Dropped off ute tail gate onto hard gravel. Elevation turret first with magazine facing up. Was sighted in 1.5” high and dead on for windage. Today:
Attachment 268291
Lots of variables, but still a poi shift. Discount bottom group hold - different projectile but still usually shoots into the same 1” group as the top 2.

2.5% ? That's quite high error - but depending on your test methodology you may have a lot of noise anyway - so it could be not quite so bad
As long as it is repeatable, it is not that big of an issue.
Definitely a lot of variables, so not necessarily he scope.
Definitely puts into perspective the benefits of drop testing/reliability testing. It's not that far fetched to drop your rifle in the feild, and knowing it'll stay zeroed is a nice piece of mind.
Of course any deer at 100yarda would still be dead, but with more and more people pushing shooting distances (often with smaller cartridges) all these errors add up.
At the moment a Leupold VX 3HD 4.5 -14 can be picked up for $499 US ( $840 NZ) in the US, but retails for around $ 1600 in New Zealand, which is $760 more. Seems like most hunters in New Zealand cannot afford high end scopes because of premium prices. That said i could have made a mistake with the Leupold models, and have grabbed the cat by the tail-end !
Leupold scopes seemed to have had a big price spike here. I'd never buy one new, at the latest asking prices.
Last week I fell heavily and ripped scope bases off rifle, the poor wee Leupold freedom 1-4 pigplex took the blow. I found screwdriver at vechile and put it back on and using eyeteometer bore sighted on tree base about hundy away.it looked near enough.got home and checked with collimeter/ boresighter and it was still dead on. I'm still aching in elbow a week later so it was a HARD fall/knock. Swapped out rings for a more robust set.
