    Sightron scopes - thoughts?

I'm getting some help from Dead Eye Dicks in Levin for a new rifle project, and they've recommended a Sightron SII Big Sky 3-9x42. Had never heard of this company before. The Big Sky series is made in Japan (earlier SII series made in Philippines). No one else in NZ seems to sell these, and I haven't been able to find any local reviews. Overseas (US / Europe) reviews seem pretty good though: good build quality/ optics/ light/ compact/ value for money. (Although value for money in NZ is a little hard to judge when no one else sells them ...) I'm leaning towards going with their recommendation, but keen to see if anyone here has any first-hand experience with them?

    Thanks in advance.

Have a look on Terminal Ballistics website as (I think) Nathan recommends them. I know a guy who bought a Sightron and returned it as flakes of debris appeared on inside of tube. He waited for it to be repaired.

Have had an SIII was a good scope, not used an SII. There's one for sale here somewhere. Mind you the Bushnell Elites LRSH that @Woody is selling would NOT be a bad option to look at...

My bad didn't proof read missed the word NOT lol Sorry @Woody

I have three Sightron scopes and one has the dreaded flakes and a hair inside the scope. I am reluctant to send it off because Sightron will not accept a scope if it does not come through the agent (Dead Eye Dick) and DED are quite slow. Anyone else send their scope back by DED - what happened?? I would not buy another Sightron because of the crap inside the scope and the Sightron return/repair policy - fine if you live in USA but not in NZ - Leupold will get my money.

I have an SIII 6-24x50 on my long range rifle and I am chuffed with it as good value for money. The adjustments are positive and the return to zero is spot on. Not quite as good optics as a similar S&B but only a fraction of the price. Looking a tin shed at over 1K with the Sightron (about $1500) I could clearly see the corrugations in the roof in good focus, while with the S&B ($5,000 +) I could see the lead head nails.

    I also have an S111 6 - 24 X 50 on my .338 long range. I like it a lot.

    I have four of them.
The big sky needed to be sent back for repair, my fault. They are not doing the big sky any more. And cost too much to repair so they said have any scope at there (sightron) cost price. I got the s-tac. And I would recommend you get one of those over the big sky, in saying that big sky is good, better than s2. The rest of mine are s3 moa-2.
Oh dead eye dick sent my scope back no questions asked.

I don't think you can compare an S2 to an S3. Never used one but guys who have the S3 rate them.
What sort of dollars?. Leopold Vx2 or vx3 equivalent money.

Would others rate the S2 as being similar to a vx2 optically?.

I believe s2 and s2 big sky are different. The later being the better, the glass is as good as s3, but turret clicks arnt as positive. Yet just as accurate.

Also have a big sky had it up against a swro the other day....the other guy was like you have to try mine so I had a good look.
Could not see any difference with my eyes....then asked the price of his...bloody hell he also turned a little green around the gills after having a look through the Big sky and then hearing on what I paid....think he went off to hit his head repeatedly against a tree after that
