Short barrels are where it's at, but any of those chassis systems are Heavy. I'd rather have something like this

For years there seamed to be this train of thought that you could cut a rifle down to 16" but not more. If you deared do more it would be ruined!

I cut my main hunting rifle down to 9.5" and suppressed it years ago and have never looked back since.

My other rifles are all cumbersome longrange rigs and need a bit of length to them to serve the specialty they are are to do, but 99% of my real hunting is still done with the 9.5" .223.

Just from the specs of various chassis systems that I've seen, they weigh 3-10+ lbs empty. For example, the XLR chassis for a Remington 700 is 3lbs 13 oz (1.72kg) without barreled action. Adding parts like a folding stock, which is one of the reasons I'd want one, especially on a short gun, adds more weight. A typical synthetic stock like a McMillan weighs what, around 600 grams?

I'll check with him what the shorty 308 weights, so we can compare apples with apples...

Yeah that'd be interesting. I checked his site earlier today but he has no real info about anything up there. I can't imagine it being much lighter than the XLR, if at all.

He demo-ed these to HV deerstalkers meet - alum everything except where steel was required. single shot with capacity for another round to fall in to the chamber as a follow-up. Don't ask me what system that uses but apparently it does.
Holding a prototype it certainly felt like the business, he said a touch over $3k each from memory.
Modular with a screw - in barrel and field assembled so you could get it into bits for packing

He certainly strips all the bullshit away
